Nic Potter & Friends/Live in Italy ....import CD $19.99

It all started with a phone call from my old friend David Jackson who was off to Italy the next day to play at a festival in Lecco (northern Italy). He had a spare airline ticket and invited me to accompany him. I accepted his invitation (we had a lot of catching up to do, and it sounded like an interesting and fun trip!) and we met up the next day at the airport and flew to Bergamot - near to Lecco. I spent several days checking out local bands and visiting a studio. Some of the musicians were just incredible and fantastic, and I decided that I had to work with Francesca Arrigoni (vocals) and Franco Giaffreda (guitar wizzard). I managed to contact them back in London and they both wanted to get involved with the project I had in mind. David Jackson (VdGG, sax & flutes), Tony Pagliuca (ex Le Orme, keyboards), and Gigi Cavalli Cocchi (drums) all came on board too. At that point I had no idea that this would become the biggest project (by a long way) I have ever undertaken, and what joyful and life-changing experiences lay ahead (both musically and friendship-wise). It was not always easy and many hurdles had to be overcome (I made 24 trips to Italy - somehow!). We did several great concerts (you can hear the enthusiasm and 'good vibes'!). I was determined to make a 'Live' CD, so 2 of the shows were recorded (that make up 'Live in Italy'). I wanted to include new versions of some early VDGG songs that I had contibuted a lot to on the original recordings (such as Darkness, Killer and Sphinx in the Face), and new versions some of my early solo work (like Elsham Road, Night Falls, etc.). Only tracks that I felt went together well and that I considered were great versions made it on to the CD. My motto was : 'ALL KILLER - NO FILLER!' I would add that most of the arrangements happened spontaneously on the night, unlike many bands who stick to the same arrangements every night and seem afraid to take risks, and seem only interested in reproducing the CD on stage. I think that's partly why 'Live in Italy ' sounds exciting - but I always preferred to live dangerously! Hope you enjoy 'Live in Italy'! Best wishes, Nic Potter"
