Annie Haslam - White Dove Records

White Dove Records

As the lead vocalist for the British group Renaissance, she has been acclaimed as the nightingale of progressive music.  In addition to the albums she recorded with Renaissance, she has released several solo albums and collaborated with such renowned musicians as Roy Wood, Justin Hayward and Steve Howe.  One of the highest achievements of her career was her live performance with Renaissance accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall and also recording with the orchestra on her solo CD, Still Life.  Her writing career began when she met producer Tony Visconti who encouraged her in this new medium of expression.  Borne from this came the album, Blessing in Disguise, where the majority of the songs were co-written by Annie and Tony.

Annie Haslam began her singing career in earnest whilst at university when she got up and performed a version of Those Were The Days at a local pub. Annie later joined a cabaret band called The Gentle People who had a residency in a venue called the Showboat in London's West End. She also trained under the opera singer Sybil Knight. It was however in late 1970 that Annie joined the band she is probably still identified with, Renaissance.  Her five octave soprano voice was to be an outstanding feature of Renaissance until the band split in the eighties. While she was a member of Renaissance Annie recorded a number of well-received albums including Prologue, Ashes Are Burning, Turn of the Card, Scheherazade, Novella and Song For All Seasons. The latter album made the top forty of the British albums chart and also spawned a top ten hit single with Northern Lights.  Annie's solo career began in 1978.  While still with Renaissance she released Annie In Wonderland and although the album was critically well received Annie regarded Renaissance as her main concern at the time.  'Blessing In Disguise,' was released in 1994 under the banner 'Annie Haslam's Renaissance.' The album was recorded following Annie's successful battle with breast cancer, and was produced by world renowned Tony Visconti, who also played and sang backing vocals on the album.   This album has been re mastered and includes two bonus tracks written by Annie and Tony.
