This re issue has been re mastered for this release and contains sleeve notes written by Larry Fast and will form part of a series of releases which will see the entire Synergy back catalogue released over the next twelve months. "Since there aren't outtakes for many of the albums, Sequencer gets an excepted working version of Sequence 14 taken from the version that I made while writing it before going into the studio to do the "real" recording that appeared on the final album. It shows some interesting evolution." - Larry Fast

Joy Askew/Gorgeous Creature ....CD EP $10.99

Larry invited his good friend, Joy Askew to release her new work on his label when the one to which she was signed, Private Music, suddenly just ceased to be. Joy is an incredible keyboardist/vocalist who has worked with such major talents as Peter Gabriel, Joe Jackson, Laurie Anderson, Rodney Crowell and more.
" These recordings came from the demos that were originally intended for my second record. The label I was signed to, Private Music, has recently folded. When I heard the news that I was fortunate enough to be included on the Lilith Fair Tour this summer, I thought, what better time to release an independent CD. There are 6 songs on the EP which I considered an "in between" until I release my second full length album. I was lucky enough to work with engineer Larry Alexander, whom I met when we worked together on Joe Jackson's album "Laughter And Lust". In addition, English producer/mixer Mark Saunders (of Tricky, Cyndi Lauper and David Byrne fame) mixed two of the songs, including the title track. Three of the songs I mixed myself at the Lo-Fi Lounge, while my good friend Larry Fast (of Peter Gabriel and Synergy fame) did the mastering for the final product and provided the label 'Third Contact.' " ~ Joy Askew
Echo/Echo ....CD $16.98

Echo, the new project from producers/multi-instrumentalists Joy Askew and Takuya Nakamura, is a seductive fusion of traditional vocal jazz and downtempo electronic grooves. On their eponymous debut, the New York duo puts a mesmerizing stamp on carefully chosen jazz standards as well as captivating originals. Echo was born from NYC's live drum & bass scene. Askew initially discovered Nakamura playing trumpet and keyboards at the SoHo nightclub Shine's popular party "Prohibited Beatz." The rotating livi line-up of DJ's, MC's and diverse musicians (including tabla virtuoso Karsh Kale and guitarist Vernon Reid) inspired Askew instantly because it reminded her of one of her biggest influences - Miles Davis' late '60's electric period (In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew).
Joy Askew/The Same Desparado ....CD-R $13.99

A new collection of songs and music from Joy Askew entitled " The Same Desperado" features not only her voice and guitar but also the sound of her band of 2000. The arrangements are woven around the lines of jazz bassist Matt Garrison, the looseness of modern drummer Bill Dobrow and the electronics and trumpet of New York drum and bass technician Takuya Nakamura. The overall impression evokes Steely Dan, the jazz era of Joni Mitchell and Radiohead. Please note these CD-R's are made by and received directly from Joy herself.
Joy Askew/when - a bootleg ....CD-R $12.99

Don't let the 'a bootleg' subtitle scare you. We get these directly from Joy Askew. This is the soundtrack Joy did for an independent New York movie called 'When.' Also included are some demos from her own studio, the Lo-Fi Lounge. This is a truly incredible collection of tracks which, up till now, has only been available through Joy at her gigs. We're definitely proud to have this collectible to offer you. Please note these CD-R's are made by and received directly from Joy herself.
Joy Askew/Tender City ....CD 13.99

Also available through Joy is her first solo album, Tender City, which she recorded for the Private Music label and which has since become somewhat of a rarity due to that label's demise. This comes to us from Joy's own private stock and features great performances from such guests as Peter Gabriel, Larry Fast, Chris Botti, Jerry Marotta, Larry Klein and more!
