Bill Bruford was a founding member of Yes through the years 1968-1972, and whilst with the band recorded five albums each of which was more successful than its predecessor. When Bill left Yes in 1972 following the release of "Close To The Edge", there were those who concluded that he'd taken leave of his senses. But it proved an astute musical move. As King Crimson's enigmatic leader Robert Fripp decided to split the band after three tumultuous albums and move on to other projects, Bill moved to playing countless sessions, and was also briefly a member of the bands National Health, Gong and, more famously, Genesis, where he played alongside Phil Collins, who had just stepped up to the microphone following the departure of Peter Gabriel. Bill was the drummer in the live Genesis situation and was with the band for the majority of 1976 while the band toured their album A Trick Of The Tail.

Following his tenure with Genesis, Bill recorded his debut album as a leader-- "Feels Good To Me", released 1978. Bill would subsequently go on to form the band Bruford and record two further studio albums and a live album before returning to King Crimson in the early eighties. Following a number three studio albums with King Crimson the band decided to take a hiatus and around late 1986 early 1987 Bill decided to form the band Earthworks. The band would be something different in jazz circles however as it would feature electronic drums rather than the traditional acoustic set of drums normally found in a jazz band. Earthworks Mark 1 also featured horn players Django Bates and Iain Ballamy alongside upright bassist Mick Hutton who was subsequently replaced by Tim Harries.

Recently Bill has created two labels for the release of his work.   The first, Summerfold Records, emphasized his more jazz oriented work beginning with the inception of Earthworks and continuing with work of today and tomorrow.   Winterfold Records is to release Bill's recorded work with the band Bruford and also with keyboardist Patrick Moraz. Whilst initially the label will be releasing the officially released albums from the period 1978-1985 there will also be the opportunity in the future to release material that has in the past only been available on bootleg and perhaps even material that has never seen a commercial release.

Bruford Levin Upper Extremities is the band formed by Bill Bruford and Tony Levin in 1998. The musicians first came together in King Crimson in the early eighties and had extremely distinguished careers prior. Bruford had previously been a member of Yes, King Crimson, Genesis and led his own band Bruford. Tony Levin had previously played with Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel and also played on the sessions for John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Double Fantasy album. Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, or B.L.U.E. as they became known, recorded two albums, one self titled studio album released in 1999 and a live album entitled Blue Nights released in 2000. The band was filled out by David Torn and Chris Botti and the music the band performed was an intriguing mix of jazz and rock. Blue Nights is the companion album to the studio debut from B.L.U.E. The album was recorded in 1998 and includes live version of a number of songs from the debut studio album including Cerulean Sea, and Original Sin. There are also a number of songs that appear only on this album. As a companion album to the studio B.L.U.E. album this live album completes the circle and, as a memento for those who witnessed the tour, is invaluable.

Pete Lockett's Network of Sparks with Bill Bruford/One ....import CD $16.99

Pete Lockett is one of the world's leading multi-percussionists. An authority on Indian percussion and an expert on tablas, kanjira, and bongos, he has played and recorded with countless artists including Björk, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, Jeff Beck, David Torn, Steve Smith, and many more!  Back in 1999 and before he was well-known, Lockett toured with Bruford as 'Network of Sparks' and they produced an inventive, culture-busting album called 'One.' The group was a percussion quintet covering many of the disciplines from around the world, in which the Ghanaian and North Indian Dhol traditions rubbed shoulders with progressive jazz and electronics. The music on 'One' is an authoritative guide to the glorious colours available from more sophisticated rhythmic cultures than our own western one, and several of its ideas were carried on into the recent 'World Drummers Ensemble' Summerfold dual-disc with percussionists Bruford, Chad Wackerman, Luis Conte, and Doudou N'Diaye Rose. 'One' has been out of print for several years and Summerfold Records is delighted to bring it back to its rightful prominence as one of the earliest and best percussion quintet albums, joining The New Percussion Group of Amsterdam and The World Percussion Ensemble, also on the label.

Moraz-Bruford/In Tokyo ....import CD $16.99

On reflection, keyboardist Patrick Moraz and drummer Bill Bruford had obvious commonality. By the mid 1980s both were Yes alumni, both were tiring of big-stadium excess, both had roots and influences that lay closer to jazz than progressive rock, and both were looking for a more flexible music, stripped of the trappings and associated costs of their regular day-jobs.  The duo recorded two albums of drum-and-keyboard based music, suffused with upbeat invention and peerless skill. Both 'Music For Piano And Drums' and 'Flags' were well received and retain a resonance that still rings loud and true, and is being discovered anew by an eager audience for whom it is as fresh and exciting as it was for those who discovered it the first time around.   The original albums are now accompanied on Winterfold Records by 'In Tokyo,' an A+ quality 1985 recording from Laforet Museum, Akasaka, Tokyo, and the only official Winterfold live album available from the duo. 10 tracks capture Moraz-Bruford at the peak of their game. As commentator Sid Smith remarks:  "Though there's an undeniable jazzy vibe to much of what's going on, there's also more than a hint of the symphonically-inclined prog-rock in which both players cut their professional musical teeth. Principally this is most evident in the framework provided by Moraz's likeable and accessible tunes. Though clearly well-structured they offer plenty of opportunities to display the lightning-quick reactions and sharp dynamics best exemplified on the racy epic and original album closer, Hazy."  'In Tokyo' offers an excellent opportunity to re-assess the group's work which remains, as Smith points out, 'marvellously spiky and capricious...closer to the jazz-based material that Bruford would explore more fully in Earthworks a few years later.'  "The group's music is...the perfect juncture between Bruford's progressive leanings and his future jazz interests." John Kelman, All About Jazz.

Pianocircus featuring Bill Bruford/Skin & Wire - The Music of Colin Riley ....import CD $16.99

...in which a composer supervises a jazz drummer who used to be a rock drummer playing with a group of classical pianists best known for performing systems music.  Skin and Wire blends electronica, jazz and the avant-garde into a set of high-energy and ambient tracks. Designed to harness the remarkable power and range of the performers, Colin Riley's music is quite unlike anything you've ever heard before.   By the tender age of 27, Bill Bruford's musical character had already been forged in the fiery furnace of four of the biggest progressive rock groups of the 1970s; Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, and UK. This early success propelled Bill, by nature a restless innovator uncomfortable with the well-worn path, into a fascinating 40-year search for the innovative, the unusual, and the unpredictable with groups such as Bruford, Earthworks, and the Bruford-Borstlap Duo. This collaboration with Colin Riley and PianoCircus will be Bruford's final CD of fresh material.

Bill Bruford/Best of Winterfold ....import CD $16.99

Bill Bruford's name is synonymous with state-of-the-art drumming and percussion, and is famously associated with several of the greatest progressive rock groups of all time – Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, and UK. He also managed to notch up sessions with Gong, Roy Harper, Pavlov's Dog, and National Health among many others in the first half of a distinguished 41 year career. But it is as a solo artist and leader that he really had room to stretch and develop as an all-rounder. Between 1978 and 1986 Bill recorded a number of albums as both a leader of his band Bruford, and in a duo with keyboardist Patrick Moraz. Winterfold Records was founded in 2004 to document his extensive solo career in rock, and all the albums recorded during this period have been re-mastered and reissued on the label.  This CD is a collection of thirteen of the best tracks from across six Winterfold albums and includes material drawn from the albums Feels Good To Me, One Of A Kind, Gradually Going Tornado, Bruford/Moraz.  Still on the electric rock side of a transition to acoustic jazz, the Winterfold Collection would act as an excellent introduction to the first half of the exciting career of one of the most influential drummers of the last 4 decades.  1. Bruford - Borstlap/In Two Minds ....import CD $16.99

British drummer Bill Bruford and Dutch keyboard master Michiel Borstlap are two of the leading lights in progressive improvised music. Since their first meeting at the Nijmegen Festival in Holland in 2002, the duo have recorded on both CD and DVD, and gone on to play major Festivals and concerts in Japan and Europe.  By the tender age of 27, Bill Bruford’s musical character had already been forged in the fiery furnace of four of the biggest progressive rock groups of the 1970s; Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, and UK. This early success propelled Bill, by nature a restless innovator uncomfortable with the well-worn path, into a fascinating 30-year search for the innovative, the unusual, and the unpredictable with groups such as Bruford, Earthworks, and the Bruford-Borstlap Duo.   Pianist Michiel Borstlap graduated Cum Laude from Hilversum Conservatory in 1992. He has had his music recorded by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and has released eight albums, including ‘Every Step a Dance, Every Word A Song’, and the DVD ‘In Concert In Holland’ with Bill. He may appear one day in a duo improvising instant compositions with Bruford, the next in a trio with with Jeff 'Tain' Watts on drums, and a third day behind his Yamaha grand improvising over techno and house beats with the group Soulvation.  'In Two Minds,' the second CD to come from this pairing of fine musicians, will no doubt be hugely anticipated by the large and dedicated fan base built up by these two artists in addition to their own separate respective fan bases who have witnessed them in concert since the duo's first formal collaboration back in 2002. Recorded in 2007, 'In Two Minds' features eleven intimate and conversational tracks of new, original material, and a stand-out reading of the Miles Davis classic 'All Blues.'   Released on the Summerfold imprint, the Bruford- Borstlap Duo will again be playing selected live dates in the run up to the release of this album, including their London debut at the London Jazz Festival on 24th November 2007.

New Percussion Group of Amsterdam with Bill Bruford and Keiko Abe/Go Between ....import CD $15.99

This latest Summerfold Records release comes from The New Percussion Group of Amsterdam, featuring Bill Bruford and Keiko Abe. The album 'Go Between' was originally released in 1986 but has been unavailable since 1992.  The New Percussion Group of Amsterdam was founded in 1980 by two solo percussionists of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Symphony Orchestra, Jan Pustjens and Niels Le Large, specifically to bring new and adventurous percussion works to a young and modern audience. This re-mastered edition of Go Between comprises four long tracks of material written specifically for the project and its two stellar featured artists.  Bill Bruford has been in the top echelon of percussionists for almost forty years. Through bands like Yes, King Crimson and Genesis to countless sessions and also leading a number of his own groups. Bill has enjoyed success within a number of different musical fields including rock and jazz. He currently leads the successful Earthworks jazz ensemble and runs the equally successful record labels Summerfold and Winterfold.  The eminent Japanese composer and virtuoso, Keiko Abe, studied percussion, composition and piano at Gakugei University in Tokyo, ultimately specialising on marimba, the instrument she was to change forever. Her formidable technical skill and powerful musical interpretation has made her a primary figure in the development of the modern five octave concert instrument, in terms of expanding both technique and repertoire.  This album will be eagerly anticipated by both the substantial and devoted Bill Bruford fan base and also by the growing Classical/World Music devotees. Both will appreciate a musical programme with one of the finest percussion groups in the world featuring two brilliant guest artists.

The two-volume Video Anthology of Earthworks splits the band's career to date into two separate decades, roughly marking its transition from an electronic to an acoustic outfit. Volume 1 represents the work of the later and current 'acoustic' editions of the band in the 2000s, and Volume 2 mostly represents the 'electronic' origins of the band in the 1990s.  Anthology Volume 1 – the 2000s - This 1'55" DVD is the first in a two volume anthology of concert footage of Bill Bruford's Earthworks, one of the longest lived, best travelled, and most original jazz quartets. This volume chronicles the band's progress through the 2000s. Filmed on tour in the United States in 2001, Argentina in 2002, and Germany in 2005, this DVD also includes three previously unrecorded tracks, and marks the debut performance of bassist Laurence Cottle and pianist Gwilym Simcock with the group. Most of the material has never before been released on DVD or video. Effortless, elegant and economical, Bruford personifies the art of the drummer, and his group Earthworks "casts new light on the jazz quartet format." (Los Angeles Times)   Anthology Volume 2 – the 1990s - This 85 minute DVD is the second in a two volume anthology of previously unreleased concert footage of Bill Bruford’s Earthworks. This volume chronicles the band's progress through the 1990s from its electronic start to its acoustic renaissance.  The group was originated as a vehicle for Bruford's unusual and innovative use of electronic percussion, and did much to challenge perceptions about what a drummer should, or should not, be doing in jazz. Filmed on tour in Germany 1991, Japan 1991, and Bulgaria 1999, Earthworks continues to offer a platform to the brightest and best young players, and has become a "potential model for the 21st century Jazz mainstream." (Chicago Reader).

Rock Goes To College-- the blistering 1979 BBC TV show with BRUFORD, featuring Annette Peacock (vocals), Allan Holdsworth (guitar), Jeff Berlin (bass), Dave Stewart (keyboards) and Bill Bruford (drums).  Following the hugely well received debut CD "UK," from the group of the same name, Bill finally felt ready for life as a full time band leader. His own group "Bruford" went on to record four albums and tour extensively as a quartet with guitarist Allan Holdsworth, particularly in the US, but the full group, featuring Annette Peacock on vocals, only ever played two shows, both for UK national TV, and this DVD is one of those shows.  Filmed in 1979 at Oxford Polytechnic in the UK, the concert features the full group playing material from the band's first two CDs, "Feels Good To Me," and "One of a Kind," and includes the stand-out track Beelzebub and the show-stopping Adios a La Pasada. The packaging includes a 12-page booklet archiving critical reaction at the time. All members of this group have gone on to distinguished careers in their own right, and together with the scarcity value of the band's performances, this DVD will be much anticipated by Bill Bruford’s extensive fan base.  Authored from original BBC footage.  Track Listing:  Sample and Hold, Beelzebub, The Sahara of Snow (Part One), The Sahara of Snow (Part Two), Forever Until Sunday, Back to the Beginning, Adios a la Pasada (Goodbye to the Past), 5G.

Doudou N'Diaye Rose (Senagalese master of the sabar), Chad Wackerman (Frank Zappa, Allan Holdsworth, etc.), Luis Conte (Madonna, Michael Jackson), and Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Earthworks, etc.), are known internationally as the World Drummers Ensemble. For those unfamiliar with, or unpersuaded by, the astonishing and increasing grip of the percussive arts as an innovative force in music across continents, this Dual Disc CD/DVD offers conclusive proof, were any needed, that rhythm beats at the heart of all things.   The music includes pieces from all members, but also from Switzerland via Pierre Favre, Turkey via the Harem Percussion Group, America via Max Roach, and there's even a re-working of King Crimson's "B'Boom." Bill Bruford and Tim Garland/Earthworks Underground Orchestra ....import CD $16.99

"A world class display of old fashioned English understatement." The Times, London.    The close working relationship between two leading individuals on the London jazz scene, drummer Bill Bruford and saxophonist Tim Garland, is mirrored in the creation of the Earthworks Underground Orchestra. This little big band's debut performance in the USA at Iridium, New York City, was captured live in full roaring swing, and the result will appeal alike to Earthworks fans, and fans from Bruford's former life in King Crimson and Yes.  Earthworks, as a small group, celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2006, and when Bruford and Garland took fresh arrangements of some of the band's best loved tunes over to NYC to work with some of the finest players in the U.S. in a nine-piece configuration, it sounded like the perfect anniversary party was just around the corner! This CD oozes that feeling of fun and excitement as the celebrations get under way.  It is indeed a rare opportunity to find Bill in such a unique setting. "The last time I did anything on this scale was with the Buddy Rich Orchestra, which I loved," he says.  "I like to think I did at least as well with them as Buddy would have done with King Crimson!  It's a privilege for me to have the Earthworks' book given the Garland treatment.  I wasn't sure I knew entirely what it would sound like with the American guys, but for certain I had the best seat in the house when I finally found out."  The CD includes Earthworks standards such as "Up North" and "Libreville," newer material such as "Bajo del Sol" and "Speaking in Wooden Tongues," and the beautiful ballads "It Needn’t End In Tears" and "Rosa Ballerina."  Several of the band members --trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, alto player Steve Wilson, saxophonist Tim Garland-- are distinguished jazz leaders in their own right.  Earthworks Underground Orchestra comes with a bonus 2 track CD for the first 3000 individually numbered copies. For those familiar with Bill Bruford's Earthworks, this is a hugely entertaining way of re-visiting the band's best loved tunes; for those unfamiliar with the band, or the sound of a large group of the USA's top players in action, hold onto your hats!

Many people will know the name Bill Bruford and it isn't just restricted to those of us in their middle forties or early fifties who remember him as a member of Yes or King Crimson or perhaps many of the sessions Bill has managed to notch up over the years, most notably for Genesis for whom he briefly drummed alongside Phil Collins when Phil took over the vocalists spot vacated by Peter Gabriel. These days Bill fronts the jazz quartet Earthworks and in addition to playing the odd session Bill seems more than happy playing dates as far afield as Japan and South America to enthusiastic jazz audiences and music lovers in general. Like most artists of his generation Bill Bruford has reached the point in his career where he can keep most aspects of his career both past and present under his control and with that in mind he has recently launched two record label imprints; Summerfold Records and Winterfold Records.  Summerfold covers the material recorded by Bill's current band Earthworks while Winterfold addresses the material recorded by the band Bruford and Bill's collaboration with another former Yes man Patrick Moraz. The label has re issued the three studio albums recorded by Bruford (Feels Good To Me, One Of A Kind and Gradually Going Tornado) and the live album The Bruford Tapes. The two albums Bill recorded with Patrick Moraz (Music For Piano And Drums and Flags) have also been re issued through Winterfold.  If you have not already jumped into the Bruford catalog, these nice price compilations could be just the starting point you need.

"Gradually Going Tornado" also features a shift in the sound with the addition of guitarist John Clark in for the departed Allan Holdsworth. Vocal duties on this album are also handled by bassist Jeff Berlin, leading the band in a different but exciting direction.  Key tracks on Gradually Going Tornado include Joe Frazier, Q.E.D and Palewell Park.  This re-issue of Gradually Going Tornado has been re-mastered and also includes a bonus track in the form of a previously unreleased version of "Five G". "The Bruford Tapes" was one of the first of the "beat the bootleggers" albums that are considered the norm these days. Featuring the later line- up of Bill Bruford, Dave Stewart, Jeff Berlin and the unknown John Clark, the album was recorded in the summer of 1979 for a live radio broadcast in Long Island, New York. "The Bruford Tapes" captures perfectly the raw atmosphere of the gig, whilst sacrificing none of the instrumental dexterity, which as ever with Bruford, is off the scale.  The material covered on this live album is drawn from the previous Bruford albums "Feels Good To Me" and "One Of A Kind" and includes improvisatory versions of "Hell's Bells", "Beelzebub" and "Sample And Hold" amongst its key tracks.  This re-issue of The Bruford Tapes has been re-mastered and also includes an unreleased bonus track "The Age Of Information". Bill Bruford's Earthworks/All Heaven Broke Loose ....import double CD $16.99

Earthworks, born 1987, was designed from the start to ruffle feathers. Featuring the "taboo" electronic drums, rock technology, and the jazz sensibilities of a new group of fresh players from the anarchic London jazz scene of the eighties, it was bound to make heads turn.  The acoustic front line of Django Bates, Iain Ballamy and Mick Hutton was a strong and powerful contrast to the electronic percussion supplied by Bruford, and the band received many international critical plaudits.  By 1991 and the release of the third album "All Heaven Broke Loose", much of the chordal work in the band was delivered astonishingly by Bill from the drums; heard to good effect here on the title track, and "Candles Still Flicker in Romania's Dark". Other key tracks include the House-inspired "Splashing Out", and the North-African influenced "Pigalle".  This recording of All Heaven Broke Loose has been re-mastered and includes two bonus tracks: Libreville and Pilgrim's Way.  As with other albums in the Summerfold series of releases, All Heaven Broke Loose comes re-packaged with a bonus disc containing music from the contrasting Winterfold catalogue and an exclusive interview with Bill Bruford.

Joining Bill and guitarist Allan Holdsworth in "Bruford" was bassist Jeff Berlin and keyboardist Dave Stewart, both of whom had also made key musical contributions to Feels Good to Me.  Key tracks on One of a Kind include Hell's Bells, Fainting In Coils and Five G. This re-issue of "One of a Kind" has been re-mastered, and includes a previously unreleased bonus track-- "Manacles."  As with all the albums in the Winterfold series of releases, "One Of A Kind" comes re-packaged with a bonus disc containing music from the contrasting Summerfold catalogue and an exclusive interview with Bill Bruford.

Considered a solo album, it predated the official start of the band "Bruford" although it features musical performances from many of the musicians who would go on to work with Bill full-time in that group.  The album features a number of key tracks including the instrumental tracks Beelzebub and Sample And Hold. Vocalist Annette Peacock contributes vocals to four tracks and a co-writing credit on the track "Adios a la Pasada" (Goodbye To The Past). Elsewhere the album features performances from keyboardist Dave Stewart, bassist Jeff Berlin, guitarists Allan Holdsworth and John Goodsall (Brand X) and flugelhorn player Kenny Wheeler.  This re-issue of Feels Good To Me has been re-mastered and also includes a bonus track in the form of an unreleased version of Joe Frazier. As with all the albums in the Winterfold series of releases, Feels Good To Me comes re-packaged with a bonus disc containing music from the contrasting Summerfold catalogue and an exclusive interview with Bill Bruford.

Bill Bruford's Earthworks/Earthworks ....import CD $16.99

Bill Bruford's Earthworks/Earthworks ....import CD $16.99

Early 1987 Bill Bruford decided to form the band Earthworks. The acoustic front line of Bates, Ballamy and Hutton was a strong and powerful contrast to the electronic percussion supplied by Bill Bruford and the band received many critical plaudits.  The debut Earthworks album features a number of key tracks including My Heart Declares A Holiday and Bridge Of Inhibition. The Summerfold imprint was launched in October 2003 to provide an outlet for Earthworks recordings both old and new.  This recording of the debut Earthworks album has been re mastered and includes two bonus tracks: All Heaven Broke Loose and A Stone's Throw. As with other albums in the Summerfold series of releases, Earthworks comes re-packaged with a bonus disc containing music from the contrasting Winterfold catalogue and an exclusive interview with Bill Bruford.

Bill Bruford/The Sound of Surprise ....import CD $15.99

The third release from Bill on his new Summerfold imprint is actually a re release of the sixth Earthworks album entitled The Sound of Surprise recorded in 2001.   Following a gruelling, profitable, well organised and frequently hilarious 18 date tour of the UK, covering, remarkably, some 3000 miles, Bill took the band into Livingston Studios in London for four days to record "The Sound of Surprise."  With essentially the same team as recorded "A Part, And Yet Apart," the new CD has nine full-blooded tracks of hard-hitting acoustic jazz weighing in at some 63 minutes, and represents the fruit of some 9 months focused endeavour, with work starting on the writing in January 2000.

Bruford Moraz/Music for Piano & Drums ....import CD $15.99

Bruford Moraz/Music for Piano & Drums ....import CD $15.99

Winterfold records is one of two record company imprints that has been formed by Bill Bruford to release Bill's recorded work with the band Bruford and also Bill's work with keyboard player Patrick Moraz. Whilst initially the label will be releasing the officially released albums from the period 1978-1985 there will also be the opportunity in the future to release material that has in the past only been available on bootleg and perhaps even material that has never seen a commercial release.   Following 'Bruford,' Bill Bruford worked with another former member of Yes, Patrick Moraz. Whilst they were never in Yes at the same time both Bruford and Moraz's roots and influences lie in jazz and it was in the mid eighties that the two musicians came together to record two albums of eclectic drum and keyboard based music. Both Music For Piano And Drums and Flags were well-received and included diverse material such as the Max Roach composition This Drum Also Waltzes and self-written material like Living Space. For the fans who perhaps own the original album on vinyl, now will be a good opportunity to experience this re mastered CD which was originally only available for a very limited time on CD as a very expensive Japanese release. Also included are three bonus tracks, all previously unreleased!

Bruford Moraz/Flags ....import CD $16.99

Although neither Bill Bruford nor Patrick Moraz played together at the same time in Yes, both musicians have a great love and more importantly an understanding of jazz.  And these talents are heard to great effect on the album Flags. Originally released in 1985 during a period when King Crimson was in hibernation Bruford and Moraz turn in a stellar performance.  The album was originally released on EG Records in the mid eighties however this re released version will now appear as the debut release on the Winterfold imprint. Winterfold has been formed to release the albums Bill Bruford recorded with his band Bruford in the late seventies and early eighties and also the albums Bill recorded with Patrick Moraz. The album will be re mastered for re release and will include three bonus tracks.

Bruford & Borstlap/In Concert In Holland ....import DVD + CD $22.99

Bruford & Borstlap/In Concert In Holland ....import DVD + CD $22.99

This wonderfully evocative live DVD captures two great musicians pushing the boundaries of music and particularly jazz.  Recorded live in Nimjigen in Holland in 1995 the concert features Bill Bruford and world-renowned jazz pianist Michiel Borstlap.  Bill Bruford is best known for his work with British bands Yes and King Crimson. In his time he has also performed with Genesis and UK. He has also led his own bands Bruford and the more straight ahead jazz combo Earthworks that he leads to this day. Bill Bruford has also recorded a great many albums with various other like-minded jazz musicians such as Patrick Moraz, and Ralph Towner.  Michiel Borstlap has also worked with many great jazz musicians over the years more notably with Jimmy Haslip, Toots Thielmans, and Pat Metheney.  This concert comes from the personal archives of Bill Bruford and documents a live concert that took place in Nijmwegen in 2002 and finds the pair in almost intuitive mood and whilst being intimate is also assertive at the same time. The performance is passionate and the free expression of both musicians comes across on this exciting live document that has not been previously released before. This package also contains the audio version of the DVD as a bonus disc.

Bruford & Borstlap/Every Step A Dance; Every Word A Song ....import CD $15.99

Bruford & Borstlap/Every Step A Dance; Every Word A Song ....import CD $15.99

These recordings are taken from a personal archive of the dates the Bruford-Borstlap duo have played since their first meeting at the Nijmegen Festival in Holland, in 2002. The nature of the music is conversational. In a small room, where most of the tracks were recorded, this may have the intimacy of a dinner table conversation between old friends ('Round Midnight, Every Step). But in a big hall, things may quite naturally become a lot more muscular and assertive (16 Kingdoms, Swansong). They are quite capable of sounding like a band with three times as many people in it, yet at no time do they lose authorship, identity, or immediacy.  The title of this album sets the scene for the pure pleasure found in these recordings, which ably display the passion both Bruford and Borstlap have for free expression and spontaneous performance.  Released for the first time on CD these performances will appeal not only to fans of both Bill Bruford and Michiel Borstlap but also to all lovers of cutting edge, spontaneous music of any genre.  Please note that this CD contains entirely different songs than the duo's DVD "In Concert in Holland."

Bill Bruford's Earthworks/Random Acts of Happiness ....import CD $15.99

Bill Bruford is quite rightly regarded as one of the finest drummers in the world through his work with Yes, King Crimson, UK, not forgetting his own band Bruford. Bill Bruford however has always been a huge fan of Jazz and so inevitably it was jazz that Bill turned to when he wanted to expand his musical horizons. Bill formed the band Earthworks in 1986 with the idea of integrating electronic drums and percussion into a jazz situation. Following the bands live album Stamping Ground in 1994 Bill turned his attention back to work with King Crimson.  By the time Earthworks had returned to full time activity not only the line up had changed but also the musical direction. The band was now an acoustic based jazz quartet which now included Bruford, Steve Hamilton, Patrick Clahar and Mark Hodgson  Random Acts Of Happiness was recorded in San Francisco at the celebrated jazz club Yoshi's in Summer 2003. This album also sees the recording debut of the latest line up of Earthworks and includes the most recent member Tim Garland who replaced Patrick Clahar. As the magazine Downbeat said in a review of Earthworks in 2002 "It's no surprise anymore how good Earthworks is."   Random Acts Of Happiness is a very special album not least because it is the most recent album in a long line of quality releases from this band but also because it is the inaugural release on the Summerfold records Imprint which will be followed no doubt by many more Earthworks releases in the future.

The first release from Summerfold Records was the wonderful live album recorded in San Francisco in 2002, Random Thoughts Of Happiness. The second release from Bill on his new Summerfold imprint is actually a re release of the sixth Earthworks album entitled A Part and Yet Apart which was originally released through the DGM label. The album features the line up of Bill Bruford (Drums/Percussion) Steve Hamilton (Keyboards) Patrick Clahar (Tenor and Soprano Saxophones) Mark Hodgson (Bass).  A Part and Apart was only the second release from this particular line up of the band and one that is popular with many modern jazz fans.  The album includes the tracks Sarah's Still Life, No Truce With The Furies and Curiouser and Curiouser.

Bill Bruford/Footloose and Fancy Free ....import double CD $18.99

The fourth release from Bill on his new Summerfold imprint is actually a re-release of the Earthworks album entitled Footloose and Fancy Free, a double album.   "Over hundreds of nights and thousands of concerts, the imperceptible removal of grime and accretion will, you hope, let your light shine forth more brightly" - Bill Bruford. Bruford has, by his own count, played some 2800 concerts since his light began shining in the early 1970s, as a singularly brilliant art-rock drummer with Yes and King Crimson. Now on this double live album, with tunes drawn mainly from studio albums A Part, and Yet Apart and The Sound of Surprise, this composer and master-drummer polishes the diamond on his current instrument of choice: the acoustic sax-piano jazz quartet. The band have built an enviable reputation over the last seven years and attracted many new fans to the cause who are themselves new to jazz.
