The Artist Shop

New Labels - Page 1

This page is for established artists you may already be familiar with who are just starting their own label or are on a fairly small independent label. Such being the case, their catalog is still small with maybe just a couple titles so far. So it's important to patronize these artists to assure their continued independent work.

Andy Ward

Andy Ward

Andy Ward Music

From his schooldays, Andy’s sole ambition was to play the drums. At age 15 he met Geoff McCelland who had recently been ousted from the fledgling John’s Children by a young Marc Bolan. Together they formed Misty Romance (ahh!). Doug Ferguson was the bass player.  Misty Romance disintegrated and Doug moved to Guildford where he met Andy Latimer. Ferguson and Latimer formed the Brew and invited Andy to join. Brew gigged around the South of England.  With the later addition of Peter Bardens, Camel was born.  The Nude tour, the last tour Andy did with Camel, was particularly gruelling for him. What wasn’t known at the time was that the illness which was to continually afflict him was beginning to manifest itself quite dramatically. Manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder, ricochets the sufferer from one end of the emotional scale to the other.  Since then Andy has performed with a wide assortment of great bands and musicians including Marillion, Richard Sinclair, Hugh Hopper, Mark Hewkins, Going Going, Skaboosh!, Mirage, Steve Adams, Yukio Yung and Bevis Frond.

It wasn't until the late 90's that Andy's manic depression was properly diagnosed and treated.  With the illness now under control Andy is free to concentrate on what he really wants out of life. Regrettably the road is too undisciplined for Andy’s health, but the studio is his ideal environment. Born to play the drums, Andy is never far from a set of sticks. In early 2003 he reunited again with Camel’s precursor band, Brew and, he, Andy Latimer and Doug Ferguson recorded an album of completely new material which will be released in early 2004.

Andy Ward/Sticking Around ....import CD $16.99

Andy Ward/Sticking Around

Camel's original (in all senses of the word!) drummer, Andy Ward, is releasing an CD of his own: 'Sticking Around,' in response to the many enquiries he has had about what he has been up to since leaving Camel.  His departure from Camel gave him the opportunity to explore all corners of what can loosely be termed 'progressive rock' by playing with, and recording with, a variety of talented musicians and songwriters. 'Sticking Around' is a selection of tracks from some of the very many recordings on which Andy has played including those from Canterbury luminary Hugh Hopper, the brilliant Terry Burrows, aka Yukyo Yung, Anthony Aldridge's totally mad Skaboosh! and of course the mighty Bevis Frond with whom Andy played for a fair few years.  As a special bonus Andy has also included one of his classic Camel drum solo's taken from 'Never Let Go' performed live in Germany in 1979.

Mark Craney & Friends

Mark Craney

Drummer Mark Craney is the consumate musician who loves music in its varied forms.  He has performed Progressive music with Jethro Tull, Funk with Tower of Power, R'n'B with Eric Burdon, Jazz with Jean Luc Ponty, pop with Gino Vanelli, and much, much more!

Unfortunately, Mark is experiencing some serious medical problems and is presently on the transplant list at the UCLA Medical Center to await a double kidney and pancreas transplant!  It was the idea of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull to put together this CD as a benefit towards Mark's considerable medical expenses.  Mark's good friends Doane Perry (Jethro Tull's drummer) and guitarist Bill Forth of Ten Seconds stepped forward to handle most of the coordination of this project.  And an incredible roster of friends came forth to participate in this event.

This is a completely unique CD which represents a range of artists that would normally not appear together under the same musical umbrella.  Mark is the musical and personal thread that weaves all of these musicians together.  There is a wide spectrum of performances, some featuring Mark while others are a tribute to him.  You'll find some unreleased live tracks here and some new studio tracks recorded specifically for this project.  All sales go directly to benefit Mark to help with his recovery.

* It is with sad regret that we must note the passing of Mark Craney in November of 2005.  He will be missed.

Vince DiCola/Falling Off a Clef... ....CD $14.99

Vince DiCola/Falling Off a Clef...

This is an all-instrumental collection featuring mostly film score-type material (with prog influences definitely in evidence). Late last year Vince collaborated on a score to a martial arts movie called "Sci-Fighter," and most of that score is featured on this new collection in a lengthy suite.  Also included is the five movement piece, Castle of the Gods, along with other works.  Featured on the CD are Vince's fellow Thread member and Jethro Tull drummer, Doane Perry, and Bowie/Tin Machine guitarist Reeve Gabrels.
