Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Manticore Records

Emerson, Lake and Palmer were one of the very first supergroups having converged from such groups as The Nice, King Crimson, Atomic Rooster and the Crazy World of Arthur Brown. And they lived up to the name being one of the prime innovators in the (at that time) youthful genre of progressive rock. They spawned many imitators, none quite approaching the genius of the original. Eventually they formed their own record label, Manticore Records, not only for their own releases, but for other progressive artists of the time (Pete Sinfield, Banco, PFM, etc.).

After the initial break up of the group in the late 70's, the label ceased operation as well. But in the last couple years Manticore Records has returned, initially to make available previously unreleased music. But one hopes the continued success of Manticore will bring about reissues of some of the original Manticore releases as well as some new original material!

Factory continues its campaign of archival ELP live releases with Live in California 1974, the first-ever official release of this legendary concert which captured the band at its peak, playing for the largest audience in its career. Says Greg Lake, "The band was at the very pinnacle of their performing powers, the event was of biblical proportions and the performance itself was almost flawless." The Three Fates Project is unlike any previous album by keyboard legend Keith Emerson and pre-eminent rock guitarist and composer Marc Bonilla. It is a unique and dynamic inseparable hybrid of orchestral and rock unlike any that's ever been heard before. Keith's music has taken yet another step in a new direction with this album. Keith is truly a modern day composer, which is why Alberto Ginastera and Aaron Copland thought so highly of him - they recognized him as one of their kind. The Three Fates Project contains both orchestral re-workings of ELP classics such as "Tarkus," "The Endless Enigma," "Abaddon's Bolero," as well as Aaron Copland's "Fanfare For The Common Man," Alberto Ginastera's "Malambo" and "American Matador" from Marc Bonilla's second solo album, as well as brand new compositions: Emerson's "After All Of This" and Marc Bonilla's "Walking Distance," and "The Mourning Sun." The album was recorded in Munich and Los Angeles over a nine month period starting in the summer of 2011. It features the 70-piece Munchner Rundfunkorchester conducted by world-reknown maestro Terje Mikkelsen, who has been often referred to as "one of the few conductors with a rock 'n' roll soul," and the Keith Emerson Band with veteran Emerson bassist Travis Davis and drummer Troy Luccketta, from the multi-platinum band Tesla.

It was 1986 and a reunion was being planned for the 1970s British super-group, Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Carl Palmer however was still contractually obliged to record two more albums for Geffen Records with his own platinum band, Asia. So, with the blessing of Carl Palmer, Emerson and Lake decided to carry on with another drummer. After a brief search, it was suggested to Emerson and Lake that they should approach Cozy Powell, a handsome Brit with a long list of successful band memberships, would soon prove to be the best choice to fill Palmer's illustrious shoes. After only one rehearsal, it was clear to both Emerson and Lake that ELPowell would indeed be a very different sounding band than Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Previously, these recordings could only be heard on illegal bootlegs, with considerably poorer audio quality, but after locating a first generation board recording, the tapes were digitally re-mastered and are now sonically better than ever. Also included are several never before-heard finished studio recordings taken from the sessions for Lake's two Chrysalis solo albums released in the 1980s; rare live recordings from Emerson, Lake & Palmer; and unreleased tracks from two Greg Lake splinter projects, EL & Powell and Greg Lake's Ride The Tiger (which included Yes/ Buggles/ Asia keyboardist, Geoff Downes). Among the rarest of the recordings on this collection are several finished studio masters of outtakes from the two Lake Chrysalis solo albums.
