Emerson, Lake and Palmer were one of the very first supergroups having converged from such groups as The Nice, King Crimson, Atomic Rooster and the Crazy World of Arthur Brown. And they lived up to the name being one of the prime innovators in the (at that time) youthful genre of progressive rock. They spawned many imitators, none quite approaching the genius of the original. Eventually they formed their own record label, Manticore Records, not only for their own releases, but for other progressive artists of the time (Pete Sinfield, Banco, PFM, etc.).
After the initial break up of the group in the late 70's, the label ceased operation as well. But in the last couple years Manticore Records has returned, initially to make available previously unreleased music. But one hopes the continued success of Manticore will bring about reissues of some of the original Manticore releases as well as some new original material!

Emerson Lake & Palmer/A Time and a Place ....4 CD set $32.99

Featuring 4 Discs of Never-Before-Released Remastered Live Tracks! Experience ELP live through the decades with this 4-CD box set. A Time And A Place features high-quality soundboard recordings on the first three discs and audience recordings on the fourth. This set brings together a select body of performances by Emerson Lake & Palmer captured before worldwide audiences during the band's career and tenure at the sharp end of the Progressive rock genre. From the group's raw and unrestrained sound of the early '70s, their rearrangements of compositions by internationally renowned composers, to their timeless conceptual pieces such as "Tarkus," "Karn Evil 9" and "Pirates," ELP have always been a band to push hard against musical boundaries.
Emerson Lake And Powell/The Sprocket Sessions ....import CD $15.99

Lemon - This is an Official Bootleg by Emerson, Lake & Powell, and the mid 1980s ELP-splinter group, formed when Carl Palmer was still contractually obligated to record with Asia. Live In Concert, features a rare live recording from the group's only tour in 1986, from recently discovered recordings in Greg Lake's personal archives. With Palmer's blessing Emerson and Lake recruited fellow Brit Cozy Powell to handle the drums on new material the two had written and were planning to record. Powell, whose drumming style was very powerful and considerably different than Palmer's, helped create a new sound for the progressive music written by Emerson & Lake. Live In Concert, taken from a 1986 show recorded in Lakeland, Florida and has been digitally re-mastered. This newly re-mastered set comes with new sleeve-notes with comments from Greg himself and a enhanced booklet with rare photos and memorabilia.
Greg Lake/Live On The King Biscuit Flower Hour ....import CD $15.99

Lemon - From the voluminous archives of the 'King Biscuit Flower Hour' comes this live set from Greg Lake (bass/guitar/vocals) at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on November 5, 1981. Lake, while on an extended hiatus from Emerson, Lake & Palmer (E.L.P.), recorded a pair of solo efforts in the early '80s. The show captured on Greatest Hits Live (2003) is circa his self-titled debut 'Greg Lake' (1981) and features the artist leading an impressive backing band with Gary Moore (guitar), Ted McKenna (drums), Tommy Eyre (keyboards), and Tristian Margetts (bass). The stage performance is interspersed with indisputable classics dating back to a pair of pre-ELP King Crimson cuts, as '21st Century Schizoid Man' and 'In the Court of the Crimson King' conclude this collection, both 'Fanfare for the Common Man' and 'Karn Evil 9' are given workouts. The sole acoustic side 'Lucky Man' is arguably the highlight, with Lake's skills as a performer and songwriter at their most prominent. This newly re-mastered set come with a new sleeve-note with comments from Greg himself and a enhanced booklet with rare photos and memorabilia.

Lemon - "From The Underground Volume 2 Deeper Into The Mine," is a second collection of rare and previously unreleased recordings dating back to 1969 and Greg Lake's days in King Crimson. Among the rarest of the recordings on this collection are several finished studio masters of outtakes from the two Lake Chrysalis solo albums. He was backed by his 1981/83 solo band featuring guitarist Gary Moore and also by the Grammy Award winning pop band, Toto. Also included is a 1971 studio-quality live recording of Lake's most popular group, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, doing a previously unreleased song entitled 'Preacher Blues.'
Keith Emerson/Keith Emerson Band ....CD $15.99

US version of his 2008 album includes one exclusive bonus track over the Japanese and European pressings, 'The Barbarian' (a reworking of the classic ELP track). Former ELP/Nice keyboardist and Prog Rock legend is joined on this album by guitarist vocalist Marc Bonilla. .Since the split of ELP, Emerson kept himself busy with soundtracks and live performances but he never returned with a proper band and a Rock set up to the sound that all his fans love. This new version of his band features an explosive combination of the classic EL&P sound and modern progressive hard rock. Emerson's keyboard is flamboyant and explosive more than ever and his songwriting is still top level. Gregg Bissonette (ex David Lee Roth Band and LA super session player) is also part of the band. 19 tracks including 'Ignition', 'Crusaders Cross' and 'Last Horizon'.
Emerson Lake & Palmer/Brain Salad Surgery-35th Anniversary Deluxe Edition ....import double CD + SACD set $41.95
Brain Salad Surgery is the fourth studio album by progressive rock band Emerson Lake & Palmer, released in 1973 and the first under their Manticore Records imprint. (announced in a press release that they now had both the financial and musical freedom to realize their fantasies). Just as striking as the music was the album's artwork. With other progressive acts becoming as well known for their album cover art as their music, ELP's covers up to this point looked fairly undistinguished in comparison. Having encountered the art of HR Giger whilst on tour in Switzerland, Keith felt that there was a immediate match between his art and their music, later stating: "...it was dark and very foreboding, and for me it represented ELP's music". The band released a flexi 7'' single of new material in conjunction with the New Musical Express. The disk contained extracts of the album and a track entitled Brain Salad Surgery, recorded during left over studio time. With the album in the can, the band went straight back out on the road again in the USA and then in Europe, further cementing their position at the top of the premiere league of acts in the USA. They did this using the most ambitious spectacular presentation ever mobilised for a group, comprising 35 tons of equipment, a quadraphonic sound system, a huge convoy of trucks. This re-issue features a bonus CD which includes the flexi-disc tracks, alternative mixes of all tracks on the album and other bonuses, and a bonus SACD with both stereo and 5.1 mixes of the album all housed in a deluxe package with informative liner notes and a booklet crammed with rare photos and memorbilia.
Emerson Lake & Palmer/Pictures At An Exhibition-Deluxe Edition ....import double CD $41.95
Pictures at an Exhibition is an album by British progressive rock band Emerson Lake & Palmer, released in 1971 as a live album and now re-released as a remastered edition including both the original live album and an unreleased verion from the Lyceum concert of December 9, 1970 of Mussorgsky's classical piece Pictures at an Exhibition. The original live album was recorded at Newcastle City Hall in North East England. The opening track of the album was played on a Harrison & Harrison pipe organ which was installed in the City Hall in 1928. This remastered edition features an expanded booklet with extensive notes and interviews with the band. The bonus second disc of the Lyceum concert also includes live performances of Knife Edge, The Barbarian and Rondo.
Greg Lake/From the Beginning-A Retropsective ....import double CD $29.95

2 CD set. From The Beginning is made up of key material from both King Crimson's and ELP's illustrious histories as well as Greg Lake's more aggressive solo ventures which feature such hard rock hitters like Gary Moore and Cozy Powell. Disc one opens with a raft of Prog Rock classics such as, 'In The Court Of The Crimson King' and ELP's 'Knife Edge' and 'Karn Evil 9' before venturing into Greg Lake's solo material proper, beginning with Lake's seasonal favorite, 'I Believe In Father Christmas' and a live working of '21st Century Schizoid Man.' Disc two sees Lake's heavier material emerging with guitarist Gary Moore displaying his power on tracks such as 'Nuclear Attack' and 'Retribution Drive'. Castle Music. 2005.
Emerson Lake & Palmer/Works Vol. 1 (remastered) ....double CD $22.99

The larger-than-life music created by ELP was dependent upon the equally sizable musical/personal egos of its members. The double-length WORKS VOL. 1 is arguably ELP's last great album. Taking the personal segregation to extremes, each member of the group was given one solo side (ah, vinyl) and they participated on one group-oriented side. Emerson is represented by a self-penned piano concerto, his finest straight-classical composition up to that point. Palmer exploits the full range of his percussive abilities on six varied instrumental tracks. Lake naturally offers up some impressive romantic balladry. The group side features the album's highlight; an orchestral epic tale called "Pirates," its intrigue-on-the-sea lyrics written by former King Crimson lyricist Pete Sinfield, and its music some of the most sophisticated ELP ever produced. This '77 release has been remastered from the original master tapes. It featured a side each of solo recordings by all three members and a fourth side of band recordings. 2 CD set.
Emerson Lake & Palmer/Works Vol. 2 (remastered) ....CD $11.99

On the two separately issued volumes of WORKS, we can see a band on the verge of coming apart. Though the songs and arrangements are uniformly strong, there's precious little interaction. Many songs seem to feature only one member of the band at a time, the other two presumably having little use for their mate's ideas. Ironically, this allowed the members' individual styles to be seen that much more clearly. Emerson's pianistic roots are made plain on impressive and unprecedentedly faithful renditions of "Maple Leaf Rag" and "Honky Tonk Train Blues" as well as an original tune--"Barrelhouse Shake-Down"--in a similar mold. Lake's balladic leanings are eloquently expressed in the poignant, devotional "Watching Over You." Palmer's precise polyrhythmic capabilities and previously underexposed compositional talents are seen on the instrumental "Close But Not Touching." This '78 release has been remastered from the original master tapes. It made the top 40 album chart and producing the hit single "I Believe In Father Christmas."
Emerson Lake & Palmer/Come And See The Show: The Best Of ....CD $11.99

Greg Lake/Greg Lake (Live 2005) ....CD $13.98

Greg Lake - The Voice of a Generation. From his initial days in the explosive London music scene of the late 1960s, through his time as founding member and voice of rock innovators King Crimson, and legendary British rock band, Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP); Greg Lake has continually made records that have endured the test of time. This album presents one of the most enduring musical figureheads of our time, performing many of his best-known classics, including King Crimsons In The Court Of The Crimson King and 21st Century Schizoid Man and Emerson, Lake and Palmers hit Lucky Man, Pictures At An Exhibition and Fanfare For The Common Man and much more! Live at Stevenage Concert Hall Arena 2005.
Emerson Lake & Palmer/Brain Salad Surgery (Deluxe with bonus tracks) ....CD $13.98

Brain Salad Surgery is the fourth album in the Emerson Lake & Palmer catalog (fifth if you include the live Pictures at an Exhibition), and was the first on their Manticore imprint. ELP fans had to wait 18 months for the follow up to Tarkus and nothing could have prepared them for the sounds and ideas hidden behind the (pre-Alien fame) H.R. Giger cover art. The reissue of Brain Salad Surgery was remastered from the analog tapes, includes new liner notes by author and music journalist Dave Thompson, and is packaged inside a miniaure LP sleeve exact replica of the brilliant original artwork including the original poster with lyrics. With just five pieces of music, Emerson Lake & Palmer set a standard for progressive music that to this very day has yet to be topped, an absolute masterpiece within the genre and beyond. Its most infamous track, "Karn Evil 9" continued the man vs. machine apocalyptical science fiction vision heard on Tarkus. Also of note is their Ginastera approved interpretation of his 1st piano concerto, "Tocatta" and the highly accessible and equally haunting ballad "Still You Turn Me On." Available for the first time on this deluxe reissue of Brain Salad Surgery is a never before heard alternate mix of "Jerusalem" and a stunning instrumental version of the "Karn Evil 9" suite.

Listen (loudly) to the album in its entirety and youll hear why it was ELP's highest U.S. charting album (#4 on the Billboard charts). Remastered from the analog tapes using the highest sonic technology available and includes new liner notes by Los Angeles Times scribe Steve Hochman.
