Simon Collins pays tribute to Genesis

Phil Collins' son covers "Keep it Dark" in honor of Genesis 40th Anniversary

Sunrise, Florida: Lightyears Music of Vancouver and Sonic Reality, leading sound production company from South Florida are pleased to announce the release of a new single from Simon Collins. For the first time in his musical career he will pay tribute to Genesis with a cover version of the song "Keep it Dark" from their '82 album, Abacab.

Simon Collins"I've always had a special affinity for this song" says Collins "and when I met Dave during the Genesis' rehearsals in New York for their upcoming reunion tour, we both agreed it would be a cool song to do together in honor of their 40th anniversary".

This modernized and futuristic version of the early 1980's offbeat Genesis single, "Keep it Dark" was created by Simon and Dave from the ground up using Dave's cutting edge music software from his company Sonic Reality and IK Multimedia. From virtual guitar rigs like AmpliTube to digital drums and other sounds from products such as Sonik Synth and Studiophonik, this track was made almost entirely inside the computer. To give the song even heavier sonic depth, Simon and Dave worked with producer/mixer Kevin Churko, and had the track mixed and mastered at his studio in Las Vegas.

"So many musicians, including the members of Genesis themselves use our software to make music in the computer" says Kerzner "I was really excited to use these same musical tools with Simon to pay tribute to one of my favorite bands, Genesis"

Simon Collins' music is a fusion of rock/pop, electronica and progressive, and the song "Keep it Dark" has a theme that fits in with Simon's fascination with space, mystery and the unknown. This version takes the song into darker sonic territory with an intensity that is reminiscent of both his father's work as well as that of Peter Gabriel. To capture the theme of space visually, Simon contacted world renowned space artist, Greg Martin to design the cover.

Collins says "Some people think I sound a lot like my dad vocally. Other people think I sound more like Peter Gabriel. There's no question that both have been a big influence on me musically. There's a mix of that fused in with my own style and sound that makes it related but different."

The exciting new cover of "Keep it Dark" will be released to the Internet for free this summer, and several remixes are being released independently by Simon and Dave as a limited edition single in honor of Genesis 40th anniversary. The song will be available for download on www.keepitdark.net and www.artist-shop.com at the same time his father Phil is joining Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford for a special Genesis reunion tour of Europe and North America.
