Colin Bass is the long time and present bassist/vocalist for the group Camel. "It was in the summer of 1979, I was only 3 years old at the time, of course - I got a phone call from dear Laurie Small. Laurie had been tour manager on a tour I had done for Steve Hillage. He told me Camel were looking for a bass-player, was I interested? I have to admit I wasnt too familiar with their music but I went down to this farmhouse deep in the English countryside where they were rehearsing - or getting it together" as they used to say - and I walked into this barn and there was Andy Latimer, Andy Ward, Kit Watkins and Jan Schelhaus. They ran through an early version of Hymn to Her" and I thought, wow, this is great, I want to be a part of this. Luckily I got the job, shaved off my beard and Ive never grown it back since." - Colin
Colin actually started his solo career some years ago with a world music alter ego, Sabah Habas Mustapha (also a member of 3 Mustaphas 3). But now he is stepping out on his own under his own name and with his own label - Kartini. But have no fear Camel fans. Colin is still very much a part of Camel.

Colin Bass/An Outcast of the Islands ....import CD $19.99
Colin Bass's classic album from 1998, An Outcast of the Islands, has now been remastered and expanded! Improved sound and three bonus tracks : "Poznan Pie" - featuring Andy Latimer and two live tracks recorded on the "Acoustic Songs" tour - versions of "Burning Bridges" and "As Far As I Can See" (featuring a rare appearance of Colin's harmonica).
An Outcast of the Islands is an incredible album featuring the talents of Camel guitarist Andy Latimer, drummer Dave Stewart, members of the progressive groups Quidam and Abraxas, and the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra. Colin truly shines here as a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist on this tour de force reminiscent of equal parts Camel, Pink Floyd and a few other things tossed in for good measure. Andy Latimer ventures into some new territory on guitar giving David Gilmour a run for his money!
"The title is from a novel by Joseph Conrad but it is not a concept-album-of -the-book as such. It certainly started out that way but if you've read the book you'll know that the central character, Willems, is a rather unsympathetic self-deluding chap who has trouble differentiating shinola from the other stuff and meets an unsurprisingly unhappy end. Although my experience as an expatriate helped me identify with certain aspects of Willem's sense of isolation I certainly did not want to attract a similar fate so I expanded the concept to include some personal references and the hope of redemption at the end. I recorded the basic tracks in Poland with Dave Stewart on drums and some excellent and reputed Polish musicians and then took the tapes to California to add some excellent contributions from a certain Mr Andrew Latimer." ~ Colin Bass

Colin Bass/Gently Kindly ....import CD single $15.99
Times present, past and passing are the themes of the four songs on the new maxi-single from Colin Bass, "Gently Kindly." Ironically 'Gently Kindly' was to have been the title track of Colin's forthcoming album. However, before the album's completion, not only was the title changed, but 'Gently Kindly' was deleted from the final track listing making it available on this CD single ONLY! The maxi-single also contains 'One Small Moment' from the forthcoming "In the Meantime" and two bonus tracks from the currently out-of-print album "Denpasar Moon" recorded 1994 by Colin's musical alter-ego Sabah Habas Mustapha.
Colin Bass/Acoustic Songs - Live Vol. 2 ....import CD $18.99
Colin Bass with Zsbysek Florek - piano, Maciek Meller - guitar, Jacek Zasada - flutes. This album was recorded on tour in Poland during the winter of 1999 and the spring of 2000. This acoustic performance sounds like a cross between Camel and Jethro Tull.

On JALAN KOPO, his new album / mess / masterpiece / thing (you choose) Sabah Habas Mustapha has teamed up with some of the best young musicians in Bandung, the capital city of the West Javanese province of Sunda. Rippling kecapis, sinuous bamboo flutes and slippery violins add their voices to the eclectic mix of musical influences bubbling out of Sabah Habas Mustapha's unusual brain. Jalan Kopo has already spent three months in the Euro World Music charts. Waduh! You may ask yourself, "What is a Jalan Kopo?" It is the name of the street where the recording studio lives. So, it's like your Beatles Abbey Road, only very different.
