This is Gary's Vanity Page.

Damn, this costume makes me look good! Step aside Aragorn!!!

This is me backstage during rehearsals of Stewart Copeland's opera, Holy Blood & Crescent Moon.

This page is just what it says it is - vanity!  I played a role in bringing about each of these releases, although the size of the role varies from recording to recording.   The John Cage Tribute was my baby from beginning to end.  It was my concept, I contacted all the artists involved, arranged for it's release through Koch, helped put together the booklet and worked my butt off promoting it.  And I'm extremely proud of the results.  I played a smaller production role on the Thirteen Harmonies release.   On the Magna Carta releases I gave creative input and helped to bring in some of the artist contributions.  On the Bill Bruford CD I made the initial contact with Ralph Towner to get him interested in the project.  All of it was fun, I hope you'll check them out.

This is truly the production of which I am most proud. This was my conception and I produced it from beginning to end even helping with editing the booklet (84 pages!) and the promotion. This two disc set features some amazing talent - 22 artists in all. I'm still amazed they all participated and I thank them all - Laurie Anderson, Robert Ashley, Larry Austin, Robert Black, Earle Brown, John Cale, Takehisa Kosugi, Kronos Quartet, Jackson Mac Low & Anne Tardos, Meredith Monk, Patrick Moraz, Ken Nordine, Yoko Ono, Oregon, Ryuichi Sakamoto, James Tenney, David Tudor, David Van Tieghem, Christian Wolff, Roger Zahab and Frank Zappa. Beware, this music is really on the cutting edge and is not for the faint of heart or mind.

Unmissable jazz collaboration sees Bill Bruford teaming up with ECM-label regular Ralph Towner on 12-string guitar and piano, and bassist Eddie Gomez, a veteran of the Bill Evans Trio, to record eleven original compositions.  This is Bruford's most mature work to date.  But once you hear it, you know he's having fun!  My part in this was very small.  Basically I had Ralph Towner's phone number from having worked with Oregon as part of the John Cage project above.  The producer who was putting this together called me and I called Ralph and sent him some tapes of Bruford's work which interested him in the project.  As I say, a small part over all, but good enough to get my name mentioned in the booklet!  LOL!!!

Roger Zahab/Thirteen Harmonies ....CD $13.99

Violinist/composer Roger Zahab was invaluable in guiding my research for the John Cage tribute. I was therefore delighted to produce his performance of John Cage's work, 'Thirteen Harmonies', in the original arrangement that Roger did for Cage. But also of note is Roger's performance of his own composition, 'Verging Lightfall'. And if you like this disc, be sure to look for Roger's album, Stubborn Beauties, on our New Artist Page.

To be honest, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the old school of progressive music. And when my friends at Magna Carta were putting together their tribute to Yes, I couldn't help but put in my two cents worth. I helped set up three tracks for them. 'Astral Traveller' performed by Peter Banks, 'Turn of the Century' performed by Steve Howe & Annie Haslam, and 'Soon' performed by Patrick Moraz. And when they asked for an album title, I gave them one. Of course it would be immodest of me to say which are my favorite tracks on this fun album, heh, heh.

Magna Carta was working on this tribute to Genesis at the same time as the above mentioned album. I helped put together two tracks - the exquisite 'Ripples' performed by the the incredible voice of Annie Haslam of Renaissance, and 'For Absent Friends' performed by Richard Sinclair who, for me, epitomizes the Canterbury sound in his solo work as well as past work with Caravan, Hatfield & the North and Camel.
