One of the highlights of Phil Manzanera's recording career and one of the best live rock albums ever.  In 1976, while Roxy Music had temporarily disbanded, 801 got together as a temporary project.  The original sextet included Manzanera, Eno, Bill MacCormick, Francis Monkman, Simon Phillips and Lloyd Watson, and after a warm up show in Cromer in Norfolk, that line-up played just two gigs - at the Reading Festival (with John Peel acclaiming them 'the musical high point of the weekend') and at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in Berlin, the band has progressed through a full three dozen line up changes, with Froese being the only continuous member.  The influence of Tangerine Dream's music on a generation of electronic and dance artists becomes increasingly evident, from The Orb, to DJ Shadow.  At the beginning of the 21st century new material surfaced at a slightly slower rate. In addition to a handful of studio albums there were a number of movie soundtracks.  In 1974 the band released 'Phaedra' considered to be one of the most brilliant and compelling works in the history of electronic music.  In 2005 Froese reunited Tangerine Dream to perform this 35th anniversary concert.

As one quarter of one of the most influential bands of the twentieth century, Maureen "Moe" Tucker's work in The Velvet Underground created a template for all rock drummers that followed. Even today, Moe's primal, tribal rhythms can be heard in countless songs from artists around the globe. Her no-nonsense style - spare kit, no drum stool, almost no cymbals - conveyed an urgency and an honesty that was the foundation of the band's sound. In a patchouli-soaked world of 20 minute double-bass drum solos, Moe kept it simple, direct and to the point. As Lou Reed put it, "She's the driving force, the hardcore heart of the Velvets' mindset."  Following her tenure with VU, Moe emerged as a solo artist, building a body of work that stretched over three decades. The debut album from Holland's most promising post-progressive rock band!  A Liquid Landscape from The Netherlands has been a live act for several years and shared the stage with bands like Karnivool, Anathema, Thrice and Riverside.  During the past year the band also was a finalist at the prestigious annual Dutch Grand Prize contest and on top of that they had 3 sold out Noorderzon gigs, featuring a stunning visual show.   With all the material they had written, the band reached out to Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Helmuet). Forrester liked the material a lot and he agreed on mixing the album and doing some production work as well.  'Nightingale Express' is a concept album.   This inspired moviemaker Lex Vesseur to make a short movie with music from the album.  He also made the artwork and the visuals for the live show. So both the music and the film return in an interactive rock show with a live VJ.  Washed up, tired and staggering across a beach in the early hours of the morning.  Somewhere in the twilight between desperation and surrender, there is still a glimmer of hope.  That sense that everything will be alright, no matter what the odds are. This is what A Liquid Landscape sounds like.

In fact there is good news for fans of the Angel's Egg period as there is over twenty minutes of footage featured on the DVD. Despite both Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman having extensive successful solo careers stretching back to the mid seventies both Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman will probably forever be associated with the classic line up of British rock band Yes as throughout the seventies, and for various periods in the eighties, nineties and beyond, both artists enjoyed a fruitful and hugely successful working relationship as part of Yes. The duo, however, have worked together outside of Yes performing in the UK in 2006 performing both classics from the Yes catalogue and also selected items from the pairs individual solo catalogue.  In 2010 it was announced that Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman were to tour together once more with the tour taking place at the end of the year. The tour featured material from their time with Yes but more importantly material from the duos then new album The Living Tree. From this tour a compilation of live highlights has been compiled and overseen by Jon and Rick. Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe as the name suggests is a collection of musicians who were important enough to warrant their name over the shop front. In this instance all four musicians were members of the classic line up of British rock band Yes.  The band decamped to Montserrat and recorded what would be their debut self titled album which was released in 1989 just before embarking on a world tour where the band would perform the album and also classics from the Yes catalogue.  This re-mastered and Deluxe edition of the debut album now includes a second disc of bonus material which includes rare mixes and single edits and more importantly three live tracks recorded on the British leg of the bands world tour.  The massive Yes fan base will ensure a positive reception to this release which contains in the bonus disc many tracks that have not been available for many years, including the powerful b-side 'Vultures in the City,' and also previously unreleased material and as such makes the package more desirable.

David Bedford is considered one of the UK's foremost composers and arrangers working both in the classical and pop genre. He first came to the attention of the rock world as a member of Kevin Ayer's band and the arranger of Kevin's album Joy Of A Toy. He was also the arranger on an orchestral version of possibly one of the most famous albums ever, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. David has also worked with other artists notably the Edgar Broughton Band and Roy Harper.  His first proper solo album was Nurse's Song With Elephants for John Peel's Dandelion Records label in 1972. Further albums for the Virgin label followed including Star's End and the Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. In 1976 David released The Odyssey an album which was a musical setting for the play by Homer.   This CD is a live performance of The Odyssey which took place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 25th of January 1977. Old Songs, New Songs was originally released in 1971 to promote an American tour (which was actually cancelled). The genesis of the Kapelle Elias Grobschnitt. It all began at the Altenhagen high school. Gerd (always called Lupo) and Achim (later called Eroc) were sitting next to each other. Gerd helped Achim in math, Achim helped Gerd in English and sometimes they were fighting with each other. At these times teacher had place them apart. Anyway, Achim was the first in class to call two tape-recorders his own and Gerd was first who owned a moped. Not long after this Gerd was the first at school to own an electric guitar and Achim to have a drum kit. That lead one year later to the formation of a band with other classmates, which Achim entitled The Universals in 1965 and later on The Crew in summer of 1966. Famously forged in a cauldron of intense artistic pressure, the Magic Band emerged as a group unlike any other in popular music. Under the tenacious tutelage of Don Van Vliet, better known as Captain Beefheart, this strikingly innovative unit took their music to unexplored places, creating a musical language all their own. Throughout the band's chaotic history with Beefheart, drummer John "Drumbo" French served as the chief translator, deciphering the Captain's often cryptic instructions into a discernable direction for the band. That night, surrounded by an enthusiastic audience that included many friends and acquaintances, the band played a transcendent set. As French relates in the album's liner notes, "It was on this night when I was able to savor the words and music of Don Van Vliet and in a sense 're-discover' the greatness of the work. I could feel the power of the compositions as they rained down upon the crowd, and I found myself laughing all over again at many of the double-entendres and euphemisms." Man started life in the late '60s/early '70s and were the nearest the UK ever got to producing our own version of The Grateful Dead.  Famous for their long jam sessions, they even at one time hooked up with the legendary John Cippolina from Quicksilver Messenger Service.  This truly awesome 7 CD box set, from the bands personal archives, was recorded at their peak in the mid '70s.  Taken from shows in the UK and USA there are classic versions of their best known works, including Spunk rock, The Storm and Many Are Called.  Of particular interest is the concert from 1976 recorded in Berkley, California, where the late, great Cippolina joins the band for performances much better than the official Maximum Darkness release.  As way of a bonus we have included 2 discs recorded in 1984.  'Man' continue to tour and record to this day.

John Martyn/Heaven and Earth ....CD $14.99

Many musicians who blaze the road to success find their inspiration among the lesser-known musical masters who paved the way.  John Martyn was revered by many, but known by few - and yet he ignited a trail that still illuminates today.  Martyn sprung from the English folk scene in the late sixties. He soon signed a record contract with Island Records and began experimenting with his style to eventually meld jazz, blues, world and funk with his folk rock roots. During this experimental journey, John Martyn forged a reputation as a jubilant and often irascible soul. He became a confidant of Eric Clapton and a creative inspiration to Phil Collins. He was a flat-mate and devoted friend to Nick Drake for whom he wrote Solid Air. The song's 1973 release, just months before Drake's death, became a defining moment in British folk rock.  John stood apart with a ruggedly soulful style that was counterbalanced with extremely personal songwriting and vocals. His experimentation never ended. He eventually created a catalog of excellent songs that charted in many directions; from his characteristic backslap acoustic guitar playing, to often jazz-inflicted singing styles, and effects-driven experimental pieces. To this day, John Martyn remains an important and influential figure in both British folk and rock.  "Heaven and Earth" is the final chapter of John Martyn's recording career which has totaled 46 albums throughout the years. John died in January 2009 during the final phase of recording this project. His long time producer and friend, Jim Tullio completed the process finishing the album last year.  Joining John on "Heaven and Earth" are his long time band mates: Spencer Cozens (p), Arron Ahmun (dr) and Alan Thompson (bs) as well as a number of special guests including Phil Collins, Garth Hudson and Jim Weider.

After having made one studio-album, and two Live-DVDs and albums with Lisa Gerrard, Klaus Schulze thought it was time to give the world back the "pure" Klaus Schulze again.  Having been invited by his big Japanese fan, Mr. Gen Fujita, he and his crew flew to Tokyo to play his very first solo concerts since November 2003. The concerts in Tokyo in March 2010 were remarkable for many reasons.  First of all, the Japanese crew rebuilt Klaus' legendary and extraordinary equipment exactly the same way as you can see it at his European concerts. Considering the fact that this equipment includes a lot of rare instruments and devices, the Japanese crew did a great job.  Secondly, the concert itself contained some surprises.  It was the first time that Klaus Schulze rebuilt and remodeled his classic "Crystal Lake" (originally released in 1977 on the album "Mirage"), renamed here as: "The Crystal Returns."   Also astonishing was the fact that Klaus played electric guitar on the track, "Sequencers Are Beautiful" - of course in his own, totally unconventional way.   In all, these were breathtaking concerts that combined Klaus tradition and vision: You will love the sequencer-sounds as well as the new components.

"La Vie Electronique 6" - the electronical journey continues!  CD 1 contains the second part of the Oberhausen-concert, with "Schwanensee" on the other: two solo pieces which were recorded in 1976 in the studio in Hambuhren.   "Fear at Madame Tussaud's" was recorded in April, 1977 in the London planetarium - at that time a novelty, for it was the first time that a concert was held in a planetarium.  "Zeitgeist" is a concert which was recorded on October 17Th , 1977 in front of 5500 people in the Saint Michael cathedral in Brussels, "Inside The Harlequin" is the encore of this evening.  The recording date of "La Vie Secrète" cannot be exactly determined after all these years any more. Recorded either in 1977/78 or 1975 this piece remains a very quiet, almost meditative jewel.   In contrast to this stands "Barracuda Drum," recorded about 1978 with Harald Grosskopf on drums.  Last but not least at the end of the third CD we encounter the Klaus Schulze of 1979: in October and November that year Klaus Schulze was on tour with Arthur Brown ("Fire"). "There was Greatness in the Room" is a fragment of the encore of concert from October, 29th 1979 in Brussels. The specific thing about this recording, besides the voice of Arthur Brown, the vocoder-voice of Klaus Schulze is also to be heard.

"La Vie Electronique 7" - the electronical journey continues!  "Re: People I Know" is the first of the two long pieces that Klaus played during his Düsseldorf concert on the 30th of September 1977.  "Avec Arthur": During the lengthy 1979 tour, Klaus played a long solo piece that filled the first half of the concerts as usual.  "Crazy Nietzsche" is loosely based on Klaus' well-known "Friedrich Nietzsche" title from the "X" recording session.   "The Future": From circa 1978. A grave, full-sounding masterpiece. The music is reminiscent of "Dune" but without the usual cello sound of this classic album. Hear Klaus on vocoder at the very end: "Just Imagine."

The first title played in the Hungarian capital is based on Klaus' famous "Ludwig" title from the album "X."   The studio track "Verbluffe sie!" is a bizarre and astonishing piece of music with a heavy beginning and soft ending.  "Seltsam statisch" is a studio track from the same period (early 80's) "Kompromisslose Invention" contains abstract and heavy sounds recorded in the mid 80's , "National Radio Waves" is in the same mood.  The set closes with "Midas Touch," which is also very rhythm based.  As all other "La Vie Electronique" sets, this is the essential, missing link to all regular studio albums of Klaus Schulze, not only for fans!

The track "Unheilbar Deutsch" was recorded during a concert at a German radio station in Cologne, in January 1985. The second keyboard player is the studied musician and amicable friend Rainer Bloss, who worked, played, and drank with KS from 1982 to 1986. "Maxxi" is the only maxi single that KS ever did.  The tracks from "Walk the Edge" are soundtrack recordings for the American violent crime movie "Walking The Edge" (also known as "The Hard Way") by director Norbert Meisel. One of the film's producers was a friend of Klaus, Manfred Menz. KS recorded this soundtrack with the help of Rainer Bloss in May 1985.  The three Spanish titles: These are encores from the concerts in Spain in October 1991. I include only the encores because the two long major titles that Klaus played at each of his five Spanish gigs were similar to the music he performed the previous month in London's "Royal Festival Hall" and which have already been released on two Virgin CDs.

By the time Jimmy Page joined the Yardbirds in 1966, the group was already firmly established as one of the era's most innovative and creatively adventurous British bands. The addition of Page allowed the band's heady mix of blues and psychedelila to coalesce into an edgy approach that laid the stylistic groundwork for Page's next band, Led Zeppelin (who were known as the New Yardbirds in their early days). The Yardbirds' 1967 release Little Games - produced by noted British pop guru Mickie Most - is the band's only album to be recorded entirely with Page as a member, and the only one to feature the group's final lineup of Page and founding members Keith Relf, Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty. Lttle Games is also a transitional effort that find the Yardbirds delving into an array of sounds and styles, from gritty blues-rock ("Drinking Muddy Water") to swirly psychedelia ("Glimpses") to instrospective balladry ("Only the Black Rose"). Several of the album's tracks can now be seen as sonic blueprints for Led Zeppelin, e.g. "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor" and "Glimpses," both of which feature the distinctive guitar bowing technique for which Page would soon become famous.
