Discipline Global Mobile

The home of Robert Fripp, King Crimson, Trey Gunn, The League of Crafty Guitarists, The California Guitar Trio and more incredibly talented musicians from the King Crimson extended family. The motto of Discipline Records is:

"The phonographic copyright in these performances is operated by Discipline Records on behalf of the artists, with whom it resides. Discipline accepts no reason for artists to give away such copyright interests in their work by virtue of a "common practice" which is out of tune with the time, was always questionable and is now indefensible."

Given that motto and the objectives of The Artists' Shop, it is only appropriate that Discipline was the first artist owned label we welcomed into the Shop. And much thanks to Mark Perry for making that possible.  Mr. Fripp has put together a hot little roster for this label and growth has been good.   Also be sure to check out our new page for Tony Levin's Papabear Records not to mention Adrian Belew Presents!

King Crimson/Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind ....3CD + Blu-Ray Box Set $39.99

King Crimson/Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind ....3CD + Blu-Ray Box Set $39.99

"This is King Crimson...  re-imagined" - Robert Fripp, June 2016.  It has been stated many times that King Crimson is not so much a band as it is "a way of doing things." Less frequently stated but equally true, is the fact that the band inevitably seeks different ways of doing things. The current incarnation of the band, 2014 - the present day, has already released two taster sets in the form of 2015's Live at the Orpheum mini-album and the vinyl picture disc EP that accompanied the 2015 tours of Canada and Japan, while the full raw concert performance from a single night in Toronto in 2015 was presented as a 2CD set earlier this year to great acclaim. Now, with the release of Radical Action comes the most fully realised audio and visual statement from this band to date, running to three themed CDs and a Blu-Ray disc offering the filmed content along with an audio only option in lossless high resolution stereo and surround sound.  The set includes at least one performance of every song/piece of music played by King Crimson in 2015, some pieces originally composed in 1969 the year of the band's inception, others composed/initially performed at a variety of points since, some new to the tour, all arranged for this specific line-up. Indeed it is characteristic of this King Crimson - in direct contrast to all other post 1970s line-ups - to feature a broad range of material from the 1969 - 1974 era, performed in such a manner as to maintain much of what made the music so arresting when first issued, while arranged for fresh interpretation by the seven piece line-up of today.  As Fripp put it (when asked what the title of the album meant to him): "What I like about this band is, that what it is actually doing is not what it appears to be doing...." The idea of King Crimson re-imagined, that the music as presented is new, irrespective of when originally composed, is the key element in this band's makeup.  The set will be released to coincide with King Crimson's most extensive European tour since 1974, with performances slated to include, for the first time ever, material from all seven of King Crimson's 1969 - 1974 iconic studio albums.

Audio: Three themed CDs of material recorded in 2015, each forming a separate discrete performance with audio selected from a variety of shows and fully mixed from multi-track tapes by Chris Porter, Robert Fripp and David Singleton. As no audience is audible between tracks, this allows for a "virtual studio album" effect. (The current King Crimson line-up was deliberately conceived as a performing band rather than as a band concerned with making full studio recordings).  Video: Among the problems most associated with filming live performance, perhaps the key problems are those of the film-makers' cameras intruding on the audience's capacity to enjoy the show without interruption and the intrusion of the cameras on the band's performance. In effect, both performance and audience response must be misrepresented to approximate a live show for later consumption. In order to record the performances more accurately, a series of Japanese concerts was captured via a number of discreet cameras in a "video verite" style - with neither band nor audience disturbed by filming - by Trevor Wilkins who also edited and assembled the footage.  Audio/Video: Blu-Ray features the concert film in high-resolution [24/48] stereo and 5.1 surround sound with additional ‘video off' mode allowing for high-resolution audio only playback in stereo and surround sound.  In essence the music can be experienced in a number of different ways - as continuous uninterrupted audio on CD, as a viewable concert performance in stereo or 5.1 surround, or in high-resolution, lossless audio stereo or 5.1 surround without pictures on the Blu-Ray.  Presentation: 2 x gatefold mini-vinyl style card sleeves containing the 4 discs plus booklet containing photos and audio notes housed in an exterior slip case.

King Crimson/Live in Toronto - November 20th 2015 ....CD $17.99

King Crimson/Live in Toronto - November 20th 2015 ....CD $17.99

DGM & Inner Knot are proud to present the first full concert release by the current lineup of King Crimson. This Official Collectors' Bootleg captures King Crimson on a single night in the middle of the band's Canadian tour in November 2015. With the exception of one small edit following an announcement before the band take the stage, the running time of this concert is exactly as it was heard in the hall by those fortunate enough to have been there.  Even by the high standards set by King Crimson's current lineup, this concert was agreed by all involved to have that extra special ingredient, making it the perfect choice when seeking an official release to counter the poorly recorded bootlegs that have begun to circulate.  Featuring the recorded debut of new material such as 'Meltdown' & 'Radical Action,' the three drummer percussion pieces 'Hell Hounds of Krim' and 'Banshee Legs Bell Hassle' and a variety of King Crimson classics. Includes material from "In The Court Of The Crimson King" performed and recorded live for the first time in decades, a return to the live set of 'Easy Money' for the first time since 1974 and more recent powerhouse pieces such as 'Level Five' and 'VROOOM'; all material that the seven piece King Crimson has made very much its own in an absurdly short time of touring.  Double cd with 12 page booklet.  Tracks include: Threshold Soundscape, Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part I, Pictures of a City, VROOOM, Radical Action (To Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind), Meltdown, Hell Hounds of Krim, The ConstruKction of Light, Red, Epitaph, Banshee Legs Bell Hassle, Easy Money, Level Five, The Letters, Sailor's Tale, Starless, The Court of the Crimson King, 21st Century Schizoid Man.  Mel Collins: saxes / flute; Robert Fripp: guitar / keyboards; Gavin Harrison: drums; Jakko Jakszyk: guitar / voice; Tony Levin: basses / stick; Pat Mastelotto: drums; Bill Rieflin: drums / keyboards.

David Cross & Robert Fripp/Starless Starlight ....CD $15.99

David Cross & Robert Fripp/Starless Starlight ....CD $15.99

A beautiful and unexpected collision of violins and soundscapes.  Two members of the groundbreaking mid 1970's King Crimson line-up unite on a fascinating album-length exploration of a melody - composed by David Cross and Robert Fripp - that emerged as one of the key themes on the King Crimson masterpiece, Starless.  The melody resurfaced in two improvisations performed and recorded by Fripp in 2006, and these recordings plus the Starless theme itself were subsequently transformed and augmented by David Cross (and co-producer Tony Lowe).

And a heroic job they make of it. Robert Fripp describes this show as "very good:" a classic bit of Dorset understatement.  Quantities are limited!!!  Robert Fripp - guitar, Tony Levin - stick, bass guitar; Bill Bruford - drums & percussion; Adrian Belew - guitar & vocal.  Tracks include:  Waiting Man, Thela Hun Ginjeet, Matte Kudasai, The Sheltering Sky, Neil and Jack and Me, Elephant Talk.  Bonus Tracks: Indiscipline, Heartbeat, Larks' Tongues In Aspic (Part II)

King Crimson/Thrak [Limited Edition Box Set] ....12 CD/1 DVD-A/1 DVD/2 Blu-Ray and Booklet Box Set $144.99

The CD features a brand new '21st century stereo reimagining' of the album by Jakko Jakszyk and Robert Fripp, while the DVD-a features 5.1 Surround Sound and Hi-Res stereo mixes by Jakszyk and Fripp, alongside a Hi-Res of the original album stereo mix.   Presented in a double digipak in slipcase and including a booklet with sleeve notes, rare photos and archive material.  Also available is a 16 disc limited edition box set featuring studio and live recordings - many previously unreleased - from King Crimson's mid-1990s 'double trio' line-up.   Highlights include a new '21st Century stereo reimagining' of Thrak (by Jakko Jakszyk and Robert Fripp), ATTAKcATHRAK (a David Singleton edited collection of improvs), and Max Vrooom, which sees a release for the long out of print mini-album Vrooom.   Recorded at Peter Gabriel's RealWorld studios, Thrak was originally released in 1995 and followed by tours in Europe, Japan and the USA. Thrak and its accompanying tours managed the task of appealing to older Crimson fans, while allowing the band to develop a whole new audience - perhaps unsurprisingly, as many of the musical ideas initially formulated by Crimson lineups of the 70s and 80s had been absorbed, extended and re-presented in a new light by bands directly influenced by earlier Crimson albums and performances.  Included in this set:

- Blu-Ray 1: The most comprehensive Hi-Res audio-only disc yet assembled features three complete albums with 5.1 Surround Sound mixes: THRAK, ATTAKcATHRAK and Kcensington THRAK.
- The second Blu-ray includes concert films, a Thrak EPK and Tony Levin's Road Movies.
- Much of the material is presented in new 5.1 Surround & Hi-Resolution stereo mixes.
- Album-sized booklet with rare/unseen photos, new sleeve notes by Sid Smith, technical notes on the recordings by David Singleton, plus memorabilia.
- Lineup includes Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Bill Bruford, with newcomers Trey Gunn (Stick and Warr guitar) and Pat Mastelotto (drums and percussion).

Only One Copy Left!!!

David Cross: violin & keyboards; Robert Fripp:  guitar & Mellotron; John Wetton: bass and voice; Bill Bruford: percussives.  Few bands of the era offered as much variety in material from night to night. King Crimson's propensity for improvisation and fondness for playing its newest material often unreleased on record at the time of the concerts is legendary. Fewer bands still, whether by accident or design, recorded so many of their live shows.   Starless offers an in depth overview of one of the era's most significant bands in its most celebrated live line-up.  Autumn 1973 - as King Crimson's second lengthy US tour of that year was coming to a close, a short series of UK concerts for the end of October, followed by a more extensive European tour in November was already planned. Three of these concerts Glasgow, Zurich & Amsterdam were recorded as full multi-track recordings, with material from the Amsterdam show being used as core material for the January 1974 recording of Starless & Bible Black. From mid-March to the start of April, the band was on the road in Europe again, promoting the album with their final European concerts of the decade, prior to undertaking a further US tour. A number of these concerts were recorded on stereo reel to reel machines, fed directly from the signal as sent to the PA system on the night of the performance. These soundboards are often referred to as "The Blue Tapes," named after the outer color of the original tape boxes and are especially valued for both the quality of recording and performance.  This boxed set includes:

• 19 CDs of live performance material including: 7 CDs taken from multi-track tape including 4CDs of material from the Glasgow & Zurich shows, freshly assembled & mastered in Hi-Res from the original Great Deceiver mixes by David Singleton at DGM Soundworld in 2014, the Amsterdam show The Nightwatch mixed by Steven Wilson & a previously unheard preparatory of material from the same show prepared by George Chkiantz (engineer of all live KC shows of the era & the Red album).  11 CDs drawn from high quality stereo reel to reel soundboard tapes. 8 making their first appearance on CD with the remaining three re-mastered or drawn from new tape sources.  1 CD presenting the performance from the ORTF Paris TV broadcast.
• CD 20 features the 2011 stereo mix of Starless & Bible Black by Steven Wilson & Robert Fripp
• DVD-A 1 features the Starless & Bible Black album in 5.1 Surround, with new & original stereo album mixes in High Resolution Stereo plus bonus audio material.

Robert Fripp/Exposure

"It's the Sergeant Pepper of avant punk." - The Wire    The term 'classic album' has been devalued somewhat through overuse, but if ever an album has proved worthy of the term, it's Robert Fripp's 1979 solo debut "Exposure."   An invitation from David Bowie & Brian Eno in July 1977 resulted in Fripp's appearance as lead guitarist on Bowie's "Heroes" album, and marked his return to full-time musician.  Further work with Daryl Hall, Peter Gabriel, The Roches and Blondie, preceded the sessions for "Exposure," recorded at the Record Plant in New York.  "Exposure" was originally conceived as part of a trilogy alongside Daryl Hall's "Sacred Songs" and Peter Gabriel's second solo album (both Fripp produced).  The new 2 CD edition consists of the oriignal 1979 release on CD 1, while CD 2 presents a version of the 1983 remix with the inclusion of the 3 formerly unreleased Darayl Hall vocal tracks & an appendix of bonus tracks all material re-mastered from the original source tapes by Simon Heyworth & approved by Fripp.   The accompanying 24 page booklet features archive photos, the original lyric inserts & sleeve notes along with newly written notes by Robert Fripp.  The special limited edition is packaged in mini-vinyl form allowing the release to fit in with the limited edition series of King Crimson 30th Anniversary re-masters that proved so popular.

Robert Fripp & Brian Eno/The Equatorial Stars ....CD $14.99

Robert Fripp & Brian Eno/The Equatorial Stars ....CD $14.99

32 years after their vanguard album, 'No Pussyfooting,' Robert Fripp & Brian Eno came together in 2004 to compose and perform seven new soundscapes on 'The Equatorial Stars' Produced by Brian Eno, this album, whose textures and atmospheres form the heart of each track, subtly changing, allowing space for Fripp's guitar solos and sounds to emerge from the center, gives Fripp & Eno the opportunity to redefine an area of music they helped launch into the mainstream in the first place.

Fripp & Eno/Evening Star (remastered) ....CD $14.99

Fripp & Eno/Evening Star (remastered) ....CD $14.99

Following their release "No Pussyfooting," Fripp & Eno continued to collaborate and eventually released their second album, Evening Star, which contained music that evolved from Eno's seminal solo album, "Discreet Music." The lengthy Fripp guitar solo on the title track is regarded by many fans as one of his most beautiful performances.  With just two albums recorded over a four year period, Fripp & Eno established a rudimentary route map of some of the music's future possibilities, and continue to inspire musicians to this day. "Evening Star" has been remastered using the original master tapes by Simon Heyworth overseen by Robert Fripp.

Fripp & Eno/Live in Paris May 28 1975 ....3 CD Set $22.99

Fripp & Eno/Live in Paris May 28 1975 ....3 CD Set $22.99

Much bootlegged, though never heard in even reasonable audio quality, this concert - one of a handful undertaken by Fripp & Eno in 1975 - is routinely described as "legendary." Hearing the tapes in fully restored audio quality, it's easy to understand why it attracts such reverence now and perhaps, why the shows attracted such hostility then. No Roxy Music hits, no King Crimson riffs, just a duo sitting in near darkness with a reel to reel tape recorder, improvising over the pre-recorded loops with a filmed background projection. Replace the reel to reel machine with a couple of laptops/iPads/sequencers and the core of much current live performance from electronica to hip-hop was there some thirty years in advance. At the time, audiences responded to such a glimpse of the future with booing, walkouts and general confusion.  Thanks to the discovery and restoration of the original backing tapes, it was possible - with much painstaking restoration work by Alex Mundy at DGM - to isolate, de-noise and match the live elements from the performance tapes to the studio loops to produce the final recording.

Edited from the album sleeve notes by Frippertronics expert Allan Okada:  "This historic recording documents an extremely rare and classic performance of a mysterious collaborative tour from two of the most creative and fascinating figures in rock. It is one of the most rewarding live recordings this writer has ever heard. For any fan of 'No Pussyfooting' or 'Evening Star,' this live recording is of epic significance and is now also comparable in audio quality, by synchronizing the most complete and best (by a mile) available live bootleg recording with Eno's recently discovered stage tapes. This tour also represented a turning point for both artists, about to enter new frontiers professionally and personally: Eno as an ambient music pioneer and Fripp's re-emergence as a "small, mobile, intelligent unit." This Paris Olympia performance was technically flawless and from a musical standpoint, incredibly inspired. This lucky audience was treated with the entirety of both classic albums as well as enough new material to constitute a third. As a bonus, we are also presented with Eno's stage tapes in pure format including Test Loops from the sound check. What more could you ask from a live recording? Absolutely essential listening."

Fripp & Eno/No Pussyfooting (expanded & remastered) ....double CD $14.99

Fripp & Eno/No Pussyfooting (expanded & remastered) ....double CD $14.99

In August, 1972, Robert Fripp, King Criimson guitarist, was producing some material for Robert Wyatt. Brian Eno, then a member of Roxy Music, came to the studio to add synth to the same sessions. Fripp & Eno found a common cause, and ended up releasing what would become one of the most significant and influential pieces of electronic music ever recorded. Calling the album "No Pussyfooting," Fripp & Eno vowed to never compromise musically to adapt to the views of the record companies of the time. Unavailable for the past few years, No Pussyfooting has been remastered using the original master tapes by Simon Heyworth overseen by Robert Fripp, and expanded to a double CD to include The Heavenly Music Corporation at half speed and both The Heavenly Music Corporation and Swastika Girls played in reverse as the album was first introduced to the public when the original reel to reel tape was accidentally played in reverse by BBC Radio One.

Jakszyk Fripp & Collins/A Scarcity of Miracles ....CD + DVD-A $21.99

A King Crimson ProjeKct, A Scarcity Of Miracles is the debut release from (Jakko) Jakszyk, (Robert) Fripp, and (Mel) Collins.  Featuring a dream rhythm section comprising Gavin Harrison and Tony Levin, ASOM is a sonically rich and detailed collection of surprisingly accessible and heartfelt songs which boasts a seductive, widescreen production.  When Robert Fripp & Jakko Jakszyk got together in February 2009 neither expected that their initial sessions of guitar-only improvisations would result in a full-blown album, or that it would ultimately be deemed to be a King Crimson projeKct. As the material from those first sessions developed it was obviously becoming much wider in scope and scale. The arrival of sax player & former King Crimson member, Mel Collins, added further colour & texture to the emerging songs. The line-up was completed with the addition of bassist Tony Levin and Porcupine Tree's drummer, Gavin Harrison (both members of the 2008 incarnation of King Crimson) adding their parts to the material in their respective studios.  Echoing elements of King Crimson's unique vocabulary, while presenting a unified group sound far removed from anything previously released under the KC name, A Scarcity Of Miracles manages to be both intimate and epic, complex yet immediate.  'One of my favourite albums of those where I am a determining element. It has the Crimson gene, but it is not quite KC.' - Robert Fripp.  The album comes as a standard CD, a heavyweight 200gm gatefold vinyl edition and in a deluxe CD/DVD-A version (which features a 5.1 mix, 24/96 stereo, the ASOM video, and an album's worth of alternate mixes and improvs from the original sessions).

King Crimson/Larks' Tongues In Aspic (40th Anniversary Series) ....double CD $17.99

King Crimson/Larks' Tongues In Aspic (40th Anniversary Series) ....CD + DVD $21.99

Larks' Tongues In Aspic, from 1973, is widely regarded as one of the truly great King Crimson albums.  With its raw tone, inspired improvisations and hard hitting odd-metered rhythms, the album marked a radical departure for this most forward thinking of groups and was the first to include Bill Bruford and John Wetton as band members.   The 40th anniversary editions will come in three configurations - a double CD, a CD/DVD-A and a 15 disc box set (which can be regarded as the ultimate edition of this classic album).  The double CD includes the completely new stereo album mix by Robert Fripp & Steven Wilson and also features three extra Steven Wilson alt takes/mixes from the multi-track tapes along with the 30th anniversary mix of the original albums, a US radio advert and an edit (transferred from original vinyl) from a US radio promo EP.  This edition comes with new sleeve notes by King Crimson biographer Sid Smith, along with rare photos and archive material.  The CD/DVD-A features the new stereo album mix by Robert Fripp & Steven Wilson and also features three extra Steven Wilson alt takes/mixes from the multi-track tapes.  The dvd-a contains a 5.1 DTS Mix and High Resolution Stereo mixes (24bit/48khz).  DVD-A players and some Blu-Ray players can additionally access a 5.1 Advanced Resolution (Lossless audio) mix.  The dvd-a features the original album mix, the new album mix, an album's worth of alternate mixes by Steven Wilson (in High Resolution stereo) and over 30 minutes of rare, previously unseen footage of the band - something of a holy grail for King Crimson fans & collectors.   This edition comes with new sleeve notes by King Crimson biographer Sid Smith, along with rare photos and archive material.

King Crimson/Live at the Orpheum ....CD + DVD-A $17.99

King Crimson/Live at the Orpheum ....CD + DVD-A $17.99

Released to coincide with the 46th anniversary of King Crimson's formation in January 1969, Live at the Orpheum comprises performances from the band's critically acclaimed, sold-out 2014 US tour.  Forty one minutes of live material from the new seven piece King Crimson line-up, including classics such as Starless, Sailor's Tale and The Letters.   King Crimson has performed, recorded and released material in its own inimitable manner for the past 46 years. As the band enters its 47th year of operation in 2015, the occasion is marked with the first release culled from the band's autumn 2014 US tour.   Comprised of 41 minutes of material by the newest incarnation of the band fronted by the line-up's formidable three drummer setup, Live at the Orpheum has been mixed from 24bit multi-track performances recorded at the band's two concerts at the Los Angeles venue. Featuring a mixture of new and old King Crimson material - some being performed live for the first time - the album makes an ideal recorded debut for the septet.   For those who travelled from all over the world to see the US shows, it's an opportunity to relive the power, precision and sheer musicality of the concerts. For those who couldn't attend but wanted to, it's an opportunity to hear why the concerts generated such excitement.  Tracks:  Walk On: Monk Morph Chamber Music; One More Red Nightmare; Banshee Legs Bell Hassle; The ConstruKction of Light; The Letters; Sailor's Tale; Starless.

King Crimson/Lizard (40th Anniversary Series) ....CD + DVD-Audio $21.99

King Crimson/Lizard (40th Anniversary Series) ....CD + DVD-Audio $21.99

Robert Fripp, Mel Collins, Gordon Haskell, Andy McCulloch, Peter Sinfield with guests Robin Miller, Mark Charig, Nick Evans, Keith Tippett and Jon Anderson.  Lizard is the third release in the King Crimson 40th anniversary series and was, like its predecessor In the Wake of Poseidon, the product of a studio band.  Lizard featured a lighter, more delicate sound than the earlier albums. The expanded range of instruments allowed for intricately interwoven instrumental passages and this combination, along with the prominence afforded to Mel Collins & the guest players led some to believe that Fripp was guiding Crimson towards the world of jazz & away from rock altogether. But such claims were misguided. Crimson was, as ever, seeking to expand the vocabulary of rock music & Lizard was, in some ways, the band's most ambitious album to date.   Lizard remains a fascinating, intriguing album - an album only a band called King Crimson could make - even if it was a very different King Crimson to that which had gone before or would come after.  The classic album has been mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) & is fully approved by Crimson founder Robert Fripp.  CD features a completely new stereo album mix by Robert Fripp & Steven Wilson and also features 3 extra tracks, 2 previously unreleased, including a new alternate mix of 'Lady of the Dancing Water' by Steven Wilson, the long unavailable 'Bolero' remix with Tony Levin on bass (from Frame by Frame) & a studio run through of 'Cirkus' from the original recording sessions.   DVD-A (plays on all DVD players & DVD Rom players) features a 5.1 DTS Mix and High Resolution Stereo mixes (24bit/48khz) and also features the three bonus tracks in High Resolution Stereo.  Presented as a 2 x digipack format in a slipcase with new sleeve notes by Robert Fripp & King Crimson biographer Sid Smith along with rare photos & archive material.

King Crimson/Red (40th Anniversary Series) ....CD + DVD-Audio $21.99

King Crimson/Red (40th Anniversary Series) ....CD + DVD-Audio $21.99

Double disc package includes original disc with extra tracks as well as a DVDA remixed for DVDA Lossless 5.1 Surround Sound, remixed for DTS 5.1 Surround Sound and original album in Hi Res Lossless stereo with extra tracks

King Crimson/Starless And Bible Black (40th Anniversary Edition) ....CD + DVD-A $21.99

King Crimson/Starless And Bible Black (40th Anniversary Edition) ....CD + DVD-A $21.99

The sixth release in the King Crimson 40th Anniversary series.  An experimental hybrid of live material and studio recordings, Starless sits between the landmark releases, Larks' Tongues In Aspic and Red.  Robert Fripp once talked about an album being a love-letter and a concert a hot date. Arguably, Starless combined the best of both worlds, making it the most accurate representation of the band's uniquely powerful mid '70s identity.  This new CD/DVD-A edition features new 5.1 (by Steven Wilson) and stereo (by Wilson and Fripp) mixes of the album, high resolution stereo mixes of the original & new stereo mixes, live footage from 1973 and copious audio extras and rarities (including Doctor Diamond and Guts On My Side).  Scheduled for an October release.

King Crimson/USA [40th Anniversary Edition] ....CD + DVD $21.99

King Crimson/USA [40th Anniversary Edition] ....CD + DVD $21.99

The ninth release in the King Crimson 40th Anniversary series.  USA was originally issued in 1975 and marked the final statement by the band's incendiary mid-1970s incarnation.  The CD features a completely new stereo album mix of the full concert by Robert Fripp & David Singleton, while the DVD features High Resolution Stereo mixes (24bit/96khz) of all three editions of this album/concert.  Presented as double digi-pack format in a slipcase with Sid Smith sleeve notes, rare photos and archive material.  USA was recorded towards the end of King Crimson's final US tour of the 70s in June 1974. It was issued as an epitaph for the band in spring 1975 as a single album - at a time when doubles or even triple live albums were more considered the norm for live releases. Deleted towards the end of the vinyl era in the mid-80s, it remained unreleased in the CD era until the expanded edition was finally issued in October 2002. In common with much of Crimson's output, it was not well received at the time by critics, though its critical reputation grew immeasurably in the intervening years to the point where a review of the 21st Century Guide to King Crimson boxed set in 2004 identified the album as the point, "...where Fripp maps out the guitar blueprint for the entire post-punk movement."

If that claim sounds somewhat exaggerated, a casual listen to the opening minutes of the album where the ethereal 'walk on...' tape of Fripp & Eno's No Pussyfooting gives way to the sonic assault of Larks' II - provides ample evidence to back up the claim. It's also worth noting the audience response to the band - especially at the end of Starless, a piece that had yet to be recorded in the studio at that point.  The reputation of the 1972/1974 King Crimson line-ups is now revered by critics and fans alike, with the material so sought after that it can justify a full 21 CD/DVD/2 Blu-Ray collection of the US/Canadian tours of spring/summer 1974.  Drawn from that release & presented in the King Crimson 40th Anniversary series format, the USA CD/DVD features a previously unreleased mix of the Asbury Park concert that formed the bulk of the original album, while the DVD features Hi-Res stereo versions of that mix, Ronan Chris Murphy's mix of the concert (issued on CD in 2006) & the expanded version of the original vinyl album as issued in 2002.  Uniquely, of the releases in this series, USA is presented in Hi-Resolution stereo only - not 5.1 Surround - as Robert Fripp decided that the live power of the quartet is best experienced in stereo sound.

David Sylvian & Robert Fripp/The First Day ....CD $15.99

David Sylvian & Robert Fripp/The First Day ....CD $15.99

From 1993 Sylvian and Fripp's The First Day surprised many with its hard hitting sound. Perhaps closer in spirit to the mid 1990s King Crimson to come than Sylvian's past work, the album boldly fused the accessible and the experimental, and in the exquisite Bringing Down The Light offered the first recorded example of Fripp's contemporary Soundscapes approach. Robert Fripp guested on David Sylvian's 1986 album Gone to Earth. Sylvian/Fripp evolved as an extension of that collaboration, initially with gigs as a trio with future King Crimson member Trey Gunn on stick, followed by a full length studio album with the addition of Jerry Marotta on drums, Marc Anderson on percussion and vocalist Ingrid Chavez. The album was recorded by David Bottrill in Woodstock NY and New Orleans. The album entered the UK Top 30 on release in summer 1993, its eclectic mix featuring short songs, extended, looped funk and rock hybrids surprised and pleased fans of both artists with, perhaps, only the beautiful closing track Bringing Down The Light with its soundscapes over ambient backdrop washes coming close to that which might have been expected prior to release. A single, Jean the Birdman, was issued shortly after the album and the releases were supported by a full band tour. Song driven yet leaving ample room for instrumental exploration, The First Day is a great advert for such occasional meetings in so far as it manages to showcase the individual strengths of both artists while drawing something new and unexpected from their joint work.  David Sylvian / guitar, keyboards, vocals, producer, tape, performer, mixing - Ingrid Chavez / vocals - Robert Fripp / guitar, producer, performer, electronics - Trey Gunn / stick, vocals - Marc Anderson / percussion - Jerry Marotta / percussion, drums

David Sylvian & Robert Fripp/Damage ....CD $15.99

David Sylvian & Robert Fripp/Damage ....CD $15.99

The 2001 David Sylvian mix of Sylvian and Fripp's powerful live album from 1994 Damage.   With a well-received studio album in the form of The First Day issued in summer 1993, Sylvian/Fripp took to the road for a lengthy tour to support the release.  Trey Gunn reprised his role from the earlier tour and studio recordings as stick player, while Pat Mastelotto joined the group on drums, a position which led to his being offered a role in the 1990s King Crimson, a band in which he has remained a member of every line-up since. Producer and recording artist Michael Brook completed the touring ensemble. Damage was recorded at the final London concerts in December 1993 and issued in 1994. Whereas the studio album had a measured grace and power, the live album was even more muscular on the rock pieces, drawing some extraordinary performances from all contributors. This made the contrast with the quieter, more ambient material even more pronounced, with audiences able to hear every nuance of the material. David Sylvian had rarely sounded better or more comfortable in a live setting. Robert Fripp provided some of his most blistering solos. Songs from the recent studio album were featured as were fan favourites from David's solo albums and Rain Tree Crow, alongside one new song The First Day. Initially released as a limited edition in 1994, the album quickly sold out and became a highly sought after recording. The album was remixed by David Sylvian and issued in 2001 with a slightly altered track listing and running order.
