The Brain Surgeons are the latest brainstorm of Albert Bouchard, a multi-instrumentalist who wrote or arranged 90% of the material that drove the last outfit he founded, Blue Öyster Cult, to international platinum-selling and arena-headlining status. The rare artist who's shared stages with both Jimi Hendrix and Thurston Moore, his songs have been recorded by such disparate groundbreakers as the Minutemen and Metallica, whose recent cover of his "Astronomy" has sold more than 4 million copies in the U.S. alone. After leaving Blue Öyster Cult at the beginning of the '80s, he continued working with Helen Wheels, co-writer of Cult favorites "Sinful Love" and "Tattoo Vampire." who introduced him to Deborah Frost, now his wife and Brain Surgeons co-leader. Like other Bouchard songwriting partners, Frost had enjoyed a substantial career as a rock critic.

Blue Oyster Cult and Manowar alumni insure this music lies somewhere between classic hard rock and classic metal with lots of blazing guitar and without growling or screaming, although the lyrics tackle dark subject matter the energy of the songs conveys.   Recognise the name Albert Bouchard ... you should, former Blue Oyster Cult's drummer forms part of the solid rhythm section of this hard and heavy rock band Brain Surgeons!  But that's not the only ace that this band have, on vocals and guitar we have Deborah Frost, an ex rock critic with raw rasping vocals, lead guitarist is none other than ex-Manowar Ross 'The Boss' and last but not least is the man responsible for the completion of that previously mentioned rock solid rhythm section David Hirschberg on bass.  These 4 musicians make up a great combination and seemed to be hell bent on creating music that's as heavy as hell and sure to leave those who thought they had any preconceived ideas about the Brain Surgeons sound standing with their mouths open.

This was the first live performance of Ross the Boss with the Brain Surgeons. The Brain Surgeons/Beach Party ....CD $13.99

The Brain Surgeons/Beach Party

In the near decade since the 1994 debut Eponymous, the band, The Brain Surgeons, the critically acclaimed power trio led by Blue Öyster Cult founder Albert Bouchard and Deborah Frost, once a quintet, has been forced, by death, disaster and the simple facts of the road, to redefine its music, mission and self damn near completely.  Beach Party, featuring a handful of contributions from familiar collaborators, bassist Joe Bouchard and lyricist Richard Meltzer, is the organic, essential Brain Surgeons, stripped straight to the rock hard bone and occasionally thoroughly ridiculous nonsense that is generally only fully experienced live. Beach Party will be accompanied by the band's most extensive touring to date including select shows scheduled for France and Great Britain in early June.

The Brain Surgeons and Friends/To Helen with Love! ....CD $13.99

The Brain Surgeons and Friends/To Helen with Love!

Cellsum Records is especially proud to offer To Helen With Love, featuring the first studio reunion of Buck Dharma, Albert and Joe Bouchard in two decades. Contributors include The Brain Surgeons, Tish and Snooky (Blondie, S*c F*cs), Neal Smith and Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper), Crispin Cioe (Rolling Stones, J Geils) whose Uptown Horns shared "Downtown Diva" bills with Helen, and the Dictators, Wheels' first back-up band. 'Tator "Top Ten" Kempner chose the album's only cover, an acoustic version of Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom," which he performed in several versions of her band, one of which evolved into his next major label outfit, the Del Lords. All profits from this project will go to animal charities.  Bouchard and Frost, who had just re-tooled the Brain Surgeons as a power trio following the serious illness of the band's guitarist, were devastated by Wheels' (née Robbins) unexpected death January 17, 2000. So were other old colleagues and friends of Helen's, who managed to set aside long unresolved differences in order to help bring her songs - some of which have never been previously released - to life. Most notable among them is the musical core responsible for BÖC's hits - Bouchard, his former college classmate Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser, and brother Joe Bouchard - who had not been in the same room, much less the same studio, for nearly two decades.  As Sandy Roeser, who, like Wheels, lived in the band house during the classic Cult era, and who sings "Hero," noted, "Helen, wherever she is, must be laughing at the irony that it took her death to bring all of us together."

Les Vegas/Fool's Gold ....CD-R $13.99

Les Vegas/Fool's Gold ....CD-R

...In 1969 the Soft White Underbelly was just finishing up their first album. The New York City underground rock scene was new and hot and the Underbelly were the hottest They played the Electric Circus, the Cafe Au Go Go, and other legendary, long gone clubs in the East and West Village. The musicians played intense east coast mystic power rock, while the singer wove stories out of the music, and the air.  They had just been signed by Elektra Records, the Door's label, and the tapes were strange, and strong............and fated never to appear.  Just as the last vocals were being recorded, the band broke up. Two years later the musicians would become the Blue Oyster Cult... and the singer....... just disappeared.

You may remember Les as Les Braunstein, the Soft White Underbelly's original lead singer. Fool's Gold also features Buck Dharma and Albert Bouchard on rare old as well as brand new recordings.  FOOLS GOLD- Is a Les Vegas retrospectacle. Most of the cuts were recently recorded by the Les Vegas Band at Paradise Sound. Some cuts are by the Test Tube Babies, as recorded in the late 70s. One is from the early seventies and is Les with Donald and Albert of the Blue Oyster Cult. It opens with the Atlantic Ocean in your right ear, and the Pacific in your left.

David Roter Method/They Made Me ....CD $13.99

David Roter Method/They Made Me

Singer/songwriter David Roter returns with his rather bizarre and twisted sense of humor still intact.  This album is definitely not for the prudish!   This album was produced by Albert Bouchard and features Al, Joe Bouchard, Buck Dharma, Tommy Mandel, Crispin Cioe and more.  Fans of the Brain Surgeons and BOC will enjoy this!

The Brain Surgeons/Piece of Work ....double CD $19.99

The Brain Surgeons - Piece of Work

Hallelujah!  the Brain Surgeons have finally finished the making of the epic double CD, Piece of Work, their fifth (and sixth!) album.  If it's taken them twice as long, it's not just because it's twice as much music.  They wanted to ensure that this piece is their best work ever -- reflecting the personal upheavals and experiences of the individual members of the band while trying to maintain the characteristic sense of humor you have come to know and love so well!

Various Artists/Burnzy's Last Call ....CD $13.99

Various Artists - Burnzy's Last Call

Eppies, a downtown Manhattan joint with a quirky clientele, understanding bartender and a very unusual jukebox, is the setting for "Burnzy's Last Call," the award winning independent feature from Rockville Pictures and director Michael de Avila.  Eppies regulars like Andre the art forger (David Johansen), Kevin the Wall Street barracuda (Chris Noth) and Gertrude the Eurotrash tourist (Frederique van der Wall) are tuned to a common frequency that alternately evokes the most glorious, glamiest and greasiest moments in pop history.  This album is produced by Crispin Cioe, a regular Brain Surgeons collaborator, and features such legendary artists as Nik Gentry, Little John Nancy, Nancy John, Wally & the Wankers, Duke Duckworth & the Mallards, Frankie Modesto and more (who sound suspiciously like The Smithereens, David Johansen, Deborah Harry, Graham Parker, Crispin Cioe, Lou Christie and more, but from some strange parallel dimension!).

Helen Wheels/Archetype ....CD $13.99

Helen Wheels - Archetype

Archetype is a compilation of material that spans this eclectic performer's twenty year career. Ms. Wheels co-penned every song on this remarkable collection. The depth and vision of her work shines bright in Archetype, as she hones in with steel-bladed accuracy on the gritty realities of everyday life and every woman's dreams of love. Archetype reincarnates the best from the beginning of this outstanding artist's musical career and gives birth to a mature awakening of new purpose and definition. Two brand new bonus tracks crown this retrospective: "Tatoo Vampire," recorded with The Brain Surgeons, and "Niagara Falls," recorded with The X Brothers.

Joe Bouchard & The X Brothers/Solid Citizens ....CD $13.99

Joe Bouchard Presents The X Brothers - Solid Citizens

Joe Bouchard, former bassist/multi-instrumentalist for Blue Öyster Cult has been silent way too long!  Recently he's contributed here and there to brother Albert's conglomeration, The Brain Surgeons, teasing us with his own potentional.   Finally it's here in the form of The X Brothers!  Assisting him are Brain Surgeon Billy Hilfiger on guitar, Andy Hilfiger on bass and Jimmy Cacala on drums while Joe plays everything he can get his hands on!  This album is as fun as rock'n'roll gets.  Mama Bouchard is definitely smiling on her boys!

The Brain Surgeons/Malpractice ....CD $13.99

The Brain Surgeons - Malpractice

From Al:  "Malpractise is really a tribute to one of our most dedicated fans, Robert 'Rudy' Rudrich, who passed away this summer shorthly after sending us a tape of a Hawkwind song we HAD to cover. We included it and a few others, notably a lost song from the Imaginos Saga, as well as the Minutemen's "Tour Spiel", a song Mike Watt wrote about coming to terms with his idols, BOC. The Brain Surgeons' version features Joe Bouchard in the role of Mike Watt. An alternate mix is featured on the D. Boon Tribute Album, "This Band Could be your Life". You'll just have to hear it."

The Brain Surgeons/Box of Hammers ....CD $13.99

The Brain Surgeons - Box of Hammers

"After sitting and listening to this thing the first time through, aside from some very obvious differences, I knew that this was unlike either of the previous Brain Surgeons albums. Once again it featured the quirky and sometimes oddball experimentation of EPONYMOUS, and on the other side of the coin it had plenty of the "in your face" "drag you through the gravel" raw power that seemed so dominant on the TREPANATION album. It seemed to be an odd juxtaposition of both flavors of Brain Surgeons music.... yet there was STILL something odd about it. I listened again. I listened closer. I listened DEEPER. And in the process of trying to finally nail down what is so unusual about this album, it grabbed me and pulled me in. Unlike TREPANATION, which pulled me in with sheer force and MADE me like it, BOX OF HAMMERS slowly and quietly lured me in to my doom, a subtle note here and a funky lyric there, until I was trapped with no hope of escape. I like it here..........." Rob "Torgo" Sedler

The Brain Surgeons/Trepanation ....CD $13.99

The Brain Surgeons - Trepanation

"Did you ever have one of those albums that haunts you like a spectre? An album of intensity and passion that becomes the cornerstone of what you judge other albums by? One of those rare albums that kinda creeps into your subconscious, burrows in deep and warm, and begins to mold and twist your chemical and spiritual makeup, until it becomes a part of your body chemistry? An album that, although you could picture a time you had never heard it, to live without it now would tear your soul in two? Ladies, fish, and gentlemen, I give you: Trepanation." - Robert Torgo Sedler/Obscursions Magazine

The Brain Surgeons/Eponymous ....CD $13.99

The Brain Surgeons - Eponymous

This is the album that started it all. Eponymous "...hits all the themes - Heaven and Hell, ware and peace, love and drums - in an eclectic music mix of songs that thump, crunch, gron, grind and dance. When was the last time you heard a serious band you thought was fun?" - Leslie Berman, The Village Voice.
