Burning Shed is a new online on-demand CDR label set up by Tim Bowness and Peter Chilvers in association with Noisebox label boss Pete Morgan. Run by artists for artists, the intention is to create a strongly focused, artistically coherent and financially feasible medium through which uniquely packaged CDRs of creative non-mainstream music can be sold at a budget price as and when they're requested.
The first run of releases includes an album of previously unreleased material by Steven Wilson's (No-Man/Porcupine Tree) celebrated electronica creation Bass Communion, the second album by ambient folk band Alias Grace, a compiliation of singles by post-rock miserablists and John Peel favourites Navigator and an unreleased live album by brooding, late night singer-songwriter project Tim Bowness / Samuel Smiles dating from 1991.

Egg consisted of Dave Stewart (keyboards), Mont Campbell (bass/vocals) and Clive Brooks (drums). Known for their uncompromising complexity and pinpoint accuracy of performance, the group was one of the most musically adventurous to emerge from the UK underground scene of the late '60s. The Metronomical Society is a collection of live and studio recordings made by the pioneering trio between 1969 and 1972. It features archive material unheard for nearly 40 years, including a sizeable segment of Egg's last Roundhouse concert which demonstrates the group's live power. Also included are superior versions of tracks from the band's radio sessions, previously available only on poor-quality bootlegs. Formed in 1967 at the height of the UK psychedelic scene, Uriel consisted of Steve Hillage (guitar/vocals), Dave Stewart (organ), Mont Campbell (bass/vocals) and Clive Brooks (drums). When Hillage left the band Uriel continued as an organ trio, later changing their name to Egg. Arzachel Collectors Edition is a re-mastered version of the legendary 1969 psychedelic album recorded under a pseudonym by Uriel, featuring the amazing 17-year old Steve Hillage on guitar throughout. The CD also contains four unreleased, ultra-rare Uriel studio demos, a spoken-word message from the past and a live snippet recorded in 1968. Archive recordings 1973-1975, Volume 2! As on the highly popular Hatwise Choice
(released in January 2005), the recordings are a mixture of live and studio tracks
(including extracts from the band's radio sessions) and feature some hitherto unrecorded
compositions. Perhaps the best-loved of the so-called 'Canterbury' bands, Hatfield's
music was a unique blend of its four members' ideas and compositions. Hattitude reflects
this rich diversity, combining the dreamy lyrical songs of Richard Sinclair, Phil Miller's
intricate jazz-tinged melodies, Dave Stewart's complex instrumentals and the free-flowing
compositions of Pip Pyle, which include a touching autobiographical song. The written
passages are punctuated with extended improvisations in which the band cut loose in a way
they never quite managed to do on their 1970s studio albums. Hattitude gives a rare
insight into the band's live performances at a time of rapid musical development, charting
their evolution from early gigs (including a notable concert recorded in the swirly
psychedelic acoustics of Amsterdam's Paradiso club) through to the more sophisticated
arrangements of 1975. En route there are moments of surreal humour and instrumental
virtuosity, coupled with instances of sheer sonic savagery which reveal the extent of the
madness in Hatfield's method. Virtually all the material is from first generation audio
sources which have been digitally restored, ensuring good sound quality throughout.
The CD comes in a full colour Digipak with a 20-page booklet containing archive photos and
period artwork. The band history initiated in Hatwise Choice continues with the four
musicians recounting behind-the-scenes events, road stories, musical reflections and
descriptions of recording their debut album in Oxfordshire's Manor Studios. These personal
memoirs provide a detailed chronicle of the events of 1973, a 'year in the life' of a
young, talented and exciting British band. Hattitude is performed by the classic
Hatfield line-up of Phil Miller (guitar), Pip Pyle (drums), Richard Sinclair (bass /
vocals) and Dave Stewart (keyboards / tone generators).
Sadly, the CD follows the recent untimely death of the band's drummer and founder member
Pip Pyle, who died in Paris on August 28th 2006. Keyboardist Dave Stewart says: "We
are devastated by losing Pip - he was our dear friend, a brilliant drummer and an
immensely creative lifelong colleague who I regarded as the driving force of Hatfield. He
did a great job compiling the material for our archive CD's and was very keen that we
should continue the series, so we are dedicating Hattitude (which contains moments of Pip
at his best) to him. The music scene will be a duller place without Pip, but his memory
and music will live on."

Earth to Ether is the new studio album by British saxophonist / flautist / composer Theo Travis. It is his sixth album for 33 Records and features his regular touring band including pianist Simon Colam, bassist Andy Hamill, and drummer Marc Parnell. Special guest on the CD is Canterbury singer and guitarist Richard Sinclair (Caravan, Hatfield & the North, Camel), one of the true talents of the English progressive/ Canterbury music scene. The album was mixed by Steven Wilson at No Man's Land. The album features Theo's flute playing more than on any other of Theo's albums and for the first time on one of Theo's albums there are some vocal tracks. Acclaimed author of "The Rotters Club" and "What a Carve Up" Jonathan Coe has written lyrics for the songs. The album was recorded in London, and mixed by Steven Wilson at No Man's Land. Influenced by 1970's jazz flute, cool jazz, Brazilian songs, Canterbury music, progressive folk, King Crimson (check out their totally jazzy cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man!), Hubert Laws and a love of melody and lush atmospheres, the album has been very positively received by those who have heard it so far.

Progressive fans will recognize Theo Travis from his work with Gong, Jade Warrior, Jansen Barbier & Karn, Steve Wilson, No-Man, Cipher, Mark Hewkins, John Marshall & Mark Wood and many more as well as being a prime mover in the British jazz scene. Heart of the Sun includes seven Travis originals which feature his strong melodies, varied compositional colours and imaginative arrangements. The music is atmospheric, contemporary, progressive and texturally rich. Travis's pieces vary in style from the McCoy Tyner-flavoured 5/4 swing of All I Know to the passion of Barking Dogs and Caravans. Several of the tracks are very spacious, such as the atmospheric arrangement of Here's That Rainy Day, the stately Northern Lights and the haunting Last Flight From Twinwood. The album finishes with a 16:41 minute epic called Bass Rock, inspired by the remote and uninhabited island of the same name. Co-produced by Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree, No-Man, Bass Communion, IEM, etc.), the album also features guitarist Daevid Allen of Gong and Danish trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg - known for his landmark collaboration with Miles Davis Aura as well as work with Dexter Gordon (including the Round Midnight film), George Russell, Bill Evans and his ECM recordings with Jan Garbarek and Terje Rypdal. As Palle Mikkelborg rarely agrees to contribute to or collaborate on other projects, his participation in this project is a strong endorsement of Travis' increasingly personal style and his identifiable musical vision.
